just need a bitta help here. i got a wireless router from a mate, and want to know if this is possible, so i can use to to connect the wii and laptop and stuff. basically the current setup is the normal router connected in the office, then wire outlets throughout the house which are connected back to the router. Can i then plug a cable from one of these outlets into the wireless routers internet point, and use it to distribute the network wirelessly?
ive tried but cant get it to work so far, im not sure how to get into the wireless routers settings, as i think they conflict with the other router. Any ideas would be great. by the way the wireless router is a linksys wireless-b broadband router. anyone know the ip to connect to that? |

You have to put one of the routers in client mode or something or other I was told when I bought my wireless router because I wanted to do the same thing. I ended up just using the wireless router because it has wired ports as well.

An easy and quick way to do it is just plug the router into the network anywhere using a normal client Ethernet port, ie not the wan port.
Disable the dhcp server and make sure the wireless routers network ip isn't the same as anything else you want to use. This will work straight up easy as pie. If however the above doesn't work make sure wireless clients can access the wired network. You can still setup wireless encryption as per normal no problems. |
