Hey i have Windows Vista and i have been using the the media center with the tv recorder. It has been working fine for the last 6 months, trail version. But now when i go to watch tv or watch recorded tv it comes up with a decoder error. It says the decoder isnt installed, and says the restart media center or the computer. Done that all but still has the same problem.

It says the decoder isnt installed, and says the restart media center or the computer. install PowereDVD 5... it comes free with most current dvd burners. if you are running Vista's MCE, it runs perfectly out of the box - if your codecs are fuxored you have a spyware problem or you've loaded a dodgy codec pack. stick with ffdshow last edited by koopz at 23:50:50 07/Feb/07 |

Codec issues... have you installed any codecs or programs for video playback?
Try the Nvidia Purevideo codec, I have had a lot of success with that with fubared media centers saying the same thing at work. We generally use powerdvd but purevideo has worked flawlessly on some where powerdvd did not. Hrm thats mainly for XPMCE, so it may not work with Vista. Haven't played with the codec side much. /edit... dammit beaten, thats what I get for opening a bunch of different tabs and not replying immediately. ffdshow worked great on my vista test install btw, last edited by rubba-chikin at 23:45:38 07/Feb/07 |

unfortunatley I've been trying to find the right decoder for vista media centre as well, none of the programs I have tried (purevideo, ffdshow etc...) have been able to work properly in vista...
I'm hanging out for something vista compatible... |

Only install base codecs you need to use.
Dont install any 3rd party codec packs, we have found many customers that have done this get the same problem. It has nothing to do with trial versions. |

Hey i have got it kinda working again. The recorded tv is not playing, but none of it has audio, and when u go to watch live tv. It just freezes on the picture, you can refresh it and it just does the same thing. The signal picture is live.
