Major changes under the new laws make it legal for people to transfer their CD collections to computers or iPods, but toughen penalties for pirates.

Attorney General Philip Ruddock said the reforms would also make it legal for people to record and play back television and radio programs at home, and provide new exceptions for cultural institutions such as schools and libraries to use copyright material for non-commercial purposes.

Sounds great as this is all i do with my music, ie. buy CDs them, rip them into mp3's and never use the CD again. Then i am free to use the mp3 on my laptop, desktop, mediacentre, ipod or ipaq.

part of the copyright amendment bill is to allow copyright material to be used in a satirical sense without fear of legal retribution...

basically phillip ruddock said 'it was important that cricket fans could cahnge the words of songs to create chants for or against teams, and that is the australian way'
