Next week looks like it will be an awesome time to head down to your local video store and grab some very cool movies. Didn't realise so many good titles were being released and I felt it was my duty to tell you guys about them. I would have felt bad if some of you missed out.

Hard Candy
Hard Candy is an edge-of-your-seat psychotic thriller as incisive as it is stylish, delivering a provocative take on the revenge drama while jangling the nerves at every turn.

A smart, charming, mature 14-year old teenage girl, Hayley (Ellen Page) probably shouldn’t be going to a local coffee shop to meet Jeff (Patrick Wilson), a charming 32-year old fashion photographer she met on the Internet. But before she knows it, she’s mixing drinks at Jeff’s place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. It’s Jeff’s lucky night.

But Hayley isn’t as innocent as she looks, and the night takes a turn when she begins to impose a hard-hitting investigation on Jeff in an attempt to reveal his possibly scandalous past...

Hoodwinked
So you think you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Don’t be too sure... One of your favorite fairy tales is turned upside-down and inside-out in what the L.A. Times called "high-energy, imaginative entertainment." With irreverent storytelling, spunk and wit, Hoodwinked delivers a comedy caper for the young, the young at heart and everyone in between.

When the police arrive at Granny’s cottage in the woods to answer a domestic disturbance call, it looks like just another open-and-shut case. But Red, Granny, the Big Bad Wolf and the Woodsman are not your usual suspects, as they have their own dark secrets, wily deceptions and conflicting accounts of the crime. Together, they must put aside their differences and find their own original twist on Happily Ever After in this raucous, genre-busting, animated gem!

Kenny
From the biggest festival to the smallest church social, Kenny Smyth delivers porta-loos to them all. Ignored and unappreciated, he is one of the cogs in society's machinery; a knight in shining overalls taking care of business with his faithful 'Splashdown' crew.

Follow Kenny as he tackles every septic challenge that comes his way, culminating in a pilgrimage to that Mecca of waste management, the International Pumper and Cleaner Expo in Nashville Tennessee - or as Kenny affectionately calls it, "Poo HQ".

With fly-on-the-wall honesty and wit, 'KENNY' lifts the lid on one of Australia's roughest diamonds as he juggles family tensions, fatherhood and sewage with charm, humour and unflinching dignity.

"It takes a certain kind of person to do what I do... No-one's ever impressed; no-one's ever fascinated... If you're a fireman, all the kids will want to jump on the back of the truck and follow you to a fire. There's going to be no kids willing to do that with me. So, I don't do it to impress people - it's a job, it's my trade, and I actually think I'm pretty good at it." - Kenny Smyth

Part philosopher, part comedian and all heart, KENNY is living proof that in sewage, like life, the best will always rise to the top.

Silent Hill
After the continuous sleep walking episodes of Sharon, the young daughter of Rose Da Silva, the decision is made to take Sharon to the place only mentioned in her restless dreams- Silent Hill. However, the road to Silent Hill is anything but easy to access, and Rose creates a high speed chase between herself and a police officer only to end in a crash for them both. When she wakes up, Sharon has disappeared and Rose is at the entrance to the deserted, dream-like town of Silent Hill.

As Rose begins the search for her daughter, she does not realise the terror and mystery surrounding her. Rose is led on a blind search for her beloved daughter, finding herself getting more and more entwined into the disturbing past of Silent Hill.

Starring Australian actress Radha Mitchell (Melinda and Melinda, Man on Fire, Finding Neverland) and Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Flight Plan), Silent Hill is based on the hugely popular trilogy of computer games by the same name.

Superman Returns
Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure, Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world’s most beloved superheroes.

While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman (Brandon Routh) faces the heartbreaking realisation that the woman he loves, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman’s bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him.

In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Click
In the comedy, Click, Adam Sandler plays Michael Newman, a family man whose busy career as an architect does not leave much time for his wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale) and his two kids.

Unable to figure out which of his many remotes turns on the television, he goes shopping for a universal remote that does everything and finds the perfect device through Morty (Christopher Walken), who gives him a one-of-a-kind remote with magical powers. With each click Michael is able to control his career and personal life.

But complications arise when the remote starts to overrule his choices.

United 93
The acclaimed, powerful and unforgettable story of a diverse group of people who banded together in the face of danger and valiantly refused to surrender, United 93 is based on the events of 9/11 that shook the world. Painstakingly researched with the full support and involvement of the families of those who lost their lives as well as the flight controllers and personnel who experienced the day’s events, the film is one of the most critically acclaimed movie releases of the year.

United 93 is a powerful and provocative drama remembering the extraordinary courage of the 40 ordinary people on United Airline Flight 93 when it became the fourth hijacked plane on 11th September 2001. As the hijackers pilot the doomed flight to their target, the passengers stand as one and find the courage to fight back.

Unfolding in real time and charting the explosive clash of modern and old world, United 93 weaves a gripping story from the standpoint of the passengers, crew and flight controllers that will live in your memory forever.

Dead Or Alive
DOA: Dead or Alive is the big screen adaptation of the highly successful Tecmo fighting game series of the same name.

The story, a cross between Charlie’s Angels and Enter the Dragon, revolves around four beautiful women who begin as rivals in a secret invitation-only martial arts contest, but find themselves teaming up with one another against a sinister force.

Tina Armstrong (Jaime Pressly) is a superstar in the world of women’s wrestling. Christie (Holly Valance) is a beautiful thief and assassin-for-hire. Princess Kasumi (Devon Aoki) is an Asian warrior-aristocrat, schooled by martial arts masters. Helena Douglas (Sarah Carter) is an extreme sports athlete whose tragic past binds her to the remote palace in Southeast Asia where the Dead or Alive tournament takes place.

Fearless
In his last martial arts epic, Jet Li plays real-life martial arts legend, Huo Yuanjia, a fighter who represents Chinese martial arts to a nation; and became the most famous fighter in China at the turn of the 20th Century.

Yuanjia faced incredible personal tragedy, but ultimately fought his way out of darkness and into history, forever defining the true spirit of martial arts at a tournament for the honour of his country.

Featuring stunning fight choreography from Yuen Wo Ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix), and direction from Bill Kong, Fearless is a must have film for fans of martial arts movies.

Garfield 2
Garfield is going continental. He’s travelling across the pond - with canine sidekick, Odie - to surprise his master, Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer) who is in London to propose to his girlfriend, veterinarian, Liz Wilson (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

In the land of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Scotland Yard and fish and chips, Garfield’s British invasion takes on a Prince and the Paw-per dimension. He inadvertently switches places with Prince, a royal cat (and by luck, his exact look-alike), who has just inherited Castle Carlyle from his deceased owner, Lady Eleanor. This is a huge disappointment to her dastardly nephew, Lord Dargis (Billy Connolly).

Now living as the Cat of Carlyle, Garfield has a butler, Smithee (Ian Abercrombie), and an international array of servants and subjects, including Winston a (very) British bulldog; McBunny, a Scottish hare; a Punjab ferret; Bolero, a Spanish bull; I Claudius, a Shakespeare quoting mouse and Christopher, a French goose.

Meanwhile, prince is living the simple life of a commoner, hitting the pubs with Jon and Odie, getting his first taste of lasagne…and liking all of it.

Uneasy is the head, however, that wears the crown. Lord Dargis, who is next in line to inherit the estate wants Prince/Garfield out of the picture. Garfield’s bigger, better more purr-fect world is soon turned upside down in this tale of two kitties.

Brick
While taking its cues and its verbal style from the novels of Dashiell Hammett, Brick also honours the rich cinematic tradition of the hard-boiled noir mystery, here wittily and bracingly immersed in fresh territory – a modern-day Southern California neighbourhood and high school. There, student Brendan Frye’s (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) piercing intelligence spares no one. Brendan is not afraid to back up his words with actions and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does – until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily (Emilie de Ravin) reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. Brendan’s feelings for her still run deep, so much so that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata.

To find her, Brendan enlists the aid of his only true peer, The Brain (Matt O’Leary), while keeping the assistant vice principal (Richard Roundtree) only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan’s single-minded unearthing of students’ secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich girl sophisticate, Laura (Nora Zehetner), intimidating Tugger (Noah Fleiss), substance-abusing Dode (Noah Segan), seductive Kara (Meagan Good), jock Brad (Brian White) and – most ominously – non-student, The Pin (Lukas Haas). It is only by gaining acceptance into The Pin’s closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to.

The Chumscrubber
The Chumscrubber is a dark comedy about the lives of people who live in upper-class suburbia. It all begins when Dean Stiffle (Jamie Bell) finds the body of his friend, Troy. He doesn't bother telling any of the adults because he knows they won't care. Everyone in town is too self consumed to worry about anything else than themselves. And everybody is on some form of drug just to get themselves through the day. After Troy's death, local drug dealers (Camilla Belle, Justin Chatwin, Lou Taylor Pucci) at the school run out of their stash. They convince Dean to get Troy's stash or they are going to kill his brother that they kidnapped, but they grabbed the wrong kid.

Hardcandy is pretty damn good. I thought United 93 was awesome. Even though you know what is going to happen it still made a big impression with me (note: if you believe the jews did it, or the cia or it was a controlled explosion don't bother with this movie)

Thanks Rev - I'll definitely be getting out either Silent Hill, Brick or Hard Candy tomorrow night.

Can you recommend me any semi-decent zombie flicks? I absolutely love the genre. I've seen most of the mainstream ones already.

Woah I got out Hard Candy last night. Very interesting. Pretty intense film that really only has two characters in it that really hold your attention for the entire time. I was a little disappointed with the end, but it was still well worth it!
