This is my new favourite in the short time I have been in England...

http://www.raadhuskiosken.dk/pic/vinafdeling/BUDVAR_1.gif

It's made by Budweiser and is very tasty. I think you can get it at Dan Murphy's/First Choice but it is a bit exy. Very cheap over here, £1.20 per 440ml can. And that is one of the more expensive beers! You can get 6 cans of Stella for £5 at most places.

Ok having worked in a bottle shop for over a year. This is where its at.

Best Aussie Beers

1) Tooheys New
2) Tooheys Extra Dry
3) Pure Blonde
4) I will throw XXXX gold in as the best midstrength beer (I know most people think its crap but it f***en sells itself).
5) Carlton Cold

Best Imported Beer

1) Heineken
2) Asahi

Best White Wines

Sav Blanc Blends (Oyster Bay and Oxford Landing are both FTW here in price)
Riesling (Best one i ever had was a premium Jacob Creeks Selection)

Best Red Wines

Cab Sav(Penfolds more expensive editions go great with a steak or any hot meal)
Shiraz (Lindemans and of course cant go past Penfolds)

And to settle the matter on VB. Its an overpriced local beer worhsipped by victorians only because it is made there. It is simply a crap beer, and aboriginals drink it. Why pay 38 dollars for VB when you can pay 34/35 for Tooheys New.

my two cents.

XXXX Gold for the win!

Only because it's one of the very few beers I can drink that doesn't give me headaches. Most heavy beers will give me a bad headache after drinking a couple.

Which one?

Best Aussie Beers

1) Tooheys New

3) Pure Blonde
4) I will throw XXXX gold in as the best midstrength beer (I know most people think its crap but it f***en sells itself).

I hope you have made this list purely on price and not on quality. XXXX Gold is a very dominant beer (1 in 3 beers sold in QLD is a XXXX Gold) but if you want a QUALITY midstrength, buy a 6 pack of Rogers. It's made by Little Creatures and it rocks very hard.

Best Imported Beer

1) Heineken
2) Asahi

Something tells me you work at a fairly mainstream shop, but yeah I dig both of those beers too. However, they are both fairly light in terms of flavour - they are great for smashing in a heavy session, but if you want flavour they will let you down.

Best White Wines

Sav Blanc Blends (Oyster Bay and Oxford Landing are both FTW here in price)
Riesling (Best one i ever had was a premium Jacob Creeks Selection)

Spot on with the Sauv Blanc - they are huge at the moment. Oyster Bay/Giesen/Stoneleigh - all massive. I've noticed a bit of Oxford Landing in the shops over here in London. It's not the best wine, but it's ok. As for riesling, you need to get a really good one for it to be anything other than glorified cask wine. Try Petaluma - it's costly but it's fantastic.

Best Red Wines

Cab Sav(Penfolds more expensive editions go great with a steak or any hot meal)
Shiraz (Lindemans and of course cant go past Penfolds)

OK you definately work in a mainstream shop :) But that's cool, that's where most people shop. Cab Sauv is great, but try some French or Chile ones FTW. In terms of Shiraz, Australia are kings at it - it should be our grape. Penfolds do make some grape Shiraz's, and in particular some even better Shiraz/Cab blends. If you want Aussie, get Shiraz from Barossa, and Cab Sauv from Coonawarra or Margaret River.

And to settle the matter on VB. Its an overpriced local beer worhsipped by victorians only because it is made there. It is simply a crap beer, and aboriginals drink it. Why pay 38 dollars for VB when you can pay 34/35 for Tooheys New.

my two cents.

Agreed, it sucks balls. 5-10 years ago when the choice wasn't as great I can understand people buying VB based on the price. But now the price isn't that special and there is so much more of a bigger range, I can't understand why it is still our biggest selling beer (within Australia - outside it's Fosters). Give it a few years and Tooheys Extra Dry or Carlton Draught will replace it.

Fosters = VB? Like, i always thought vb and fosters both tasted like absolute s***, but i never put 2 and 2 together and figured out it was actually the same brew!

Well i Work at The Brackenridge Tavern Bottlemart which actually got the award for best bottle shop in queensland from QHA (Queensland Hotels Association).

It is fairly mainstream but we still have a large range of wines and a s*** load of RTD's. Our fridge space compared to BWS and liqourland allows us to stock alot more RTD's that you would never see them stock.

I know the beers i choose are mainstream i have tried alot of others like 1664, Monteith's, Castlemaine Brown Ale (LOL) and some others i cant really remember. I didnt include them cause there so dam expensive. Were also limited to beer that is imported locally by other companies.
