hey all, it's come that time i need to buy a new phone

i've only ever used a nokia so that might be a slight consideration

i know almost nothing about phones, the one i currently have makes phone calls and sends txt msgs and that's about it

what are your opinions and suggestions on different models worth considering?

I would recommend one that also receives phone calls and text messages, that's about it.

boycott sony because they're chumps is my only advice. Some of the new ones are swanky and do heaps of s***, but unless you want to watch crappy video or listen to like 4 mp3s or take blurry photos, I'd just stick with whatever the hell is simple and cheap.

i sold my k750i and bought a Sony DSC-T10 7mp cybershot instead. And use a nokia that only does calls and text. Much happier.

Why the hell would u spend $500 on a phone which has a s*** 3mp camera, when u could buy a proper camera that will take good photos and not be obsolete in 6months?

yeah no worries its so important to me and cos ive only ever had a car charger once and not always driving but i travel quite often, and nothing more annoying then having to bloody charge it every night just because you forgot your charger you have to put up with no phone

yeh battery is the biggest factor for me as well, I don't want no mp3 player in a mobile - i have an ipod, I don't need a camera - I have a digi cam.

I want something that makes and receives calls and texts that's about it.

I have a nokia 6111 before coming over here and it f***ing sucked hard and the battery life was shyte...

I have been a nokia fan boi for the past 10 years, but I got a Sony Ericcson w8001 for €50 off a bloke at work and I am liking it - battery life is awesome, charge once a week if I am lucky - the nokia was every day or two.

I've found though the 'simpler' the phone the longer the battery life, i.e mine was a slide phone, that uses battery, having bluetooth on or using mp3/radio on the phone uses the battery etc etc the ones that seem to have the longest are the ones that don't have all the bells and whistles...

I just got a new Nokia 2310 from vodafone for free cos ive been on their cap plan a while now - loyalty reward.

It f***ing rocks. All it does it calls and sms, and has a radio which is something i actually use. That battery life is sic. Standby time of like 21 days and talk time of 5.5 hours.

Is is the perfect phone for me. Calls, text, radio. And it charges fkn quick too. And it's worth f'all (vodafone sells them for $79) so I'm not so concerned about losing it or breaking it.

My advice for buying a phone - think about what you'll actually USE on it, and what u WANT in it (ie battery life, radio).

An article on Slashdot a few days ago had a Motorola or Nokia phone which was just a phone. It made calls, sent SMS and that's it. No MP3 player, camera, etc.

I bought a N80 a couple of weeks ago too, I love it (mainly just because I can play DOOM on it)

N80's are massive, otehrwise i'd get one

N73's are a bit better sized and not as expensive, i guess you can't play games like doom on it though :p
