If its ticking and not detecting its gone my friend, time to buy a new one :)

That ticking you can hear is the read head ramming itself into the platters cause something has failed bigtime :/ She ain't coming back.

its still working though :/

I kinda don't want to go through the warranty hassel, considering it was purchased in Aus and I'd be returning it in Ireland (its Asus and has a global warranty)

and heardy kills yet another hard drive :D

If there's a global waranty why not take advantage of it? Just delete all your porn & send it in for repair. Either that or just buy yourself another hard drive, back up all your stuff onto a CD & toss the old one out/grind it into little pieces if you're worried about sensitive data.

edit: aren't you supposed to run that diag software from a bootable cd/floppy? maybe that's why it's not working.

When you start to get corrupted files don't come back crying :)

If you persist in using it I wouldn't be storing anything of value on there cause its just a matter of time before it all goes bye bye.
