PARIS, France. – 9 November, 2006 – Blizzard Entertainment® announced today that World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade™, the highly anticipated expansion to the world’s leading subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft, will be in stores on January 16th in North America and Europe. The expansion will be available in a similar time frame in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore as well, and availability for mainland China and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau will be announced in the near future. In addition, Blizzard today announced that the subscriber base for World of Warcraft has reached a new milestone, with 7.5 million players worldwide.

The rest of the Press Release is here.

Seems strange Blizz have given a release date that far in advance - From memory they've usually shunned release dates due to the fact they seem to always miss them :)

From a completion point of view however, the Beta seems to be nearing final build stages with the latest content patch (today) raising the level cap to 70, finally allowing people to buy Flying mounts and opened up 2 of the final 3 zones (Blade's Edge Mountains & Netherstorm). The number of bugs & funny problems from the last couple of Beta pushes seems to have lessened, although there's still a number of quests that can't be done due to things not spawning correctly (or at all!). My experiences with the Beta so far have all been hugely positive - the new World PvP objectives for each zone are things you'd actually want to do and the new Dungeons/Instances seem to address some of the issues people had with the old ones (as in the majority are designed to be quick Dungeon bashes, over in 30-40 mins).

Also.. 7.5 Million subscribers? goddamn...

If they're claiming 7.5 million subscribers, I'd like to know how many accounts they claim have been signed up but may not necessarily be active.

I'm willing to bet that number is somewhere in the 7.5 million region - hm, funny that...

“Blizzard announced that its subscriber base for the game has reached a staggering 7.5 million worldwide. The company was sure to note that this figure does not include cancelled or expired subscriptions, or expired pre-paid cards. It includes current subscribers as well as users who have logged into the game from internet cafes within the past 30 days.”

I'd imagine you're a f***ing spastic if you think that's what I was tryin to say there casa.
I know they constantly claim their figures don't include cancelled/inactive subscriptions. What I'm saying is I want to know what that figure is - because I reckon they're full of s***.

I've decided I'm not gonna bother getting this. I'm pretty much over WoW now and I've been playing for almost a year so that's enough for me. I've only logged in once this week and I've noticed I've been able to get heaps of other s*** done when before I couldn't because of this game.

Anyway, good luck to all who buy it and I hope you continue to have fun.

I won't believe Rev has quit totally until he deletes all his characters from his account THEN cancels it.

Yeah. This morning I cancelled my subscription which finishes on Monday and also deleted my Paypal account so I can no longer waste money on WoW gold.

I only logged in once this week on Tuesday and then again this morning and I pretty much just stood around wondering what the f*** to do. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun game but in the end you don't get anywhere. I would much prefer to play some AQ2 then spend more time on WoW and with the expansion coming soon it's just gonna be more of the same.

So does anyone wanna buy my account? Has a lvl 60 hunter, pally and priest. Lvl 50 shammy and a lvl 30 mage.

Rev, how has it improved in the last few months (if at all?) I was last playing it at I think 1.10, at which time I just got sick of the constant inability to get groups.

I'll be getting the BC collectors edition, purely for the soundtrack, but I doubt I'll play it much.

Don't even think of getting the BC collectors edition unless you're getting it from the states. I pre ordered my copies of BC a while back from EB Garden City and at the time they had close to 400 orders and were only getting 30 collectors editions. Apparently BC is on its way to being the hottest release ever (as told by EB staff).
