We're toying around with the idea of extending WackGet into a more general purpose download manager for use with AusGamers (and other sites) to make life easier for people downloading stuff.
WackGet is a simple, neat, small footprint front-end to the awesome wget command line download tool. b2 spent some time last week tinkering and has built a new version that includes the latest wget, which offers Large File Support, and also included SSL support. If you're interested in testing it out and providing feedback you can download it here. |

- I can't see a way to provide auth details for a URL, ie: I pasted a URL from a restricted section on a web site but WackGet doesn't have a space to throw in the username & password to add to the URL for retrieval.
- Although you can specify the port of your proxy in the server tab, gumbys will sit and stare blankly for hours waiting for an input box they can enter the port number in. - Ctrl-A doesn't select all the items in the queue window. - Would be nice to have a "remove all" option under the Item menu/right click menu (in addition to clear completed). Damn nice product though, I've been meaning to use 'the google' to find a nice gui frontend for wget but thanks to the magic of QGL & trog I don't have to! |

what is the benifit of download managers? is it the queuing for people who need to manage their cap? i know that there are those ftp download managers that splinter the file into seperate threads to efficently hog server resources, but what is the benifit of those one? |

Other interface changes should be good. what is the benifit of download managers?Mostly for resuming. The vast majority of support issues we get with downloads are people whose download has died and they can't figure out how to get that last 0.01%. |

http://user:password@domain.com form URLs should work. You know how lazy I am :) Would be nice to say if it received a 401 respone then it would popup a dialog box asking for the creditionals. |

yeh good idea, though it might be quite a bit of work because it involves intepreting response from wget. I'll see.

I just browsed through the source-code. Talk about reinventing the wheel!
They seem to blur the line between doing everything manually for optimal size/performance and being elitists, like cdkey-generator authors who code everything in assembly. BUT .. the program does live up to expectations. Lightweight, reliable .. so good on them. |
