Apparently in victorian times some people would prop up and pose dead relatives for a photo after their death, sometimes with the living posing with them.

definitely some creepy looking pics there.. but it's all about social conditioning i spose. in todays western society hardly anyone ever sees dead bodies & so they get a taboo sort of creepiness about them. it kinda freaked me a bit when i was in calcutta & they had 'open morgues' so that unidentifed corpses might be identified by people walking past... but the locals didn't seem a bit phased.

i don't find corpses creepy, i just find them disgusting, and rightfully so -- without the immune system to take care of the diseases, harmful bacteria runs rampant


i went to an open casket funeral of a 6 year old boy (he died of some seriously crazy disease and i think his family didn't believe in bone marrow transplants or something so he couldn't get the help he needed), the face had a blue tinge but otherwise it wasn't that bad. still gross and nothing i want to repeat
