So a couple of weeks ago I noticed my knee had a slight twitch in it. Was a bit sore and swollen, but I had not done anything specifically to injure it.

Went to the doctors a few days ago because it was not improving and he gave me some anti-inflamatories. Have done nothing to improve it as yet.

I have never had a problem with my knees before and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and what they did to resolve it? (I like to believe I'm too young to be getting arthritis.)

Get your doctor to give you a referal to a specialist and skip the f***ing about... (its like nuking the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure)

My left knee is pretty rooted from playing Badminton constantly. I hobble around like a cripple for 15mins or so every morning :)

Started taking Glucosamine about 6 months ago and it seems to make a big difference. The misses broke her ankle playing and one of the specialists said he did a study on it and it got proven to aid certain injuries.

I think it would be beneficial to find out exactly what is wrong though as opposed to just looking for a cure :)

Physio it up. Despite what some people say (even though it is true they can stuff around for a while figuring out what's going on) my left knee went from useless to good enough to play lots of sport through physio (given my problem was muscular which surprised me at the time).

I was in an accident when I was younger and fractured both my knees - have had problems ever since.

Can be worth going and seeing a physiotherapist, even one visit can give you an idea of some treatment/excercises you can do at home to help youreself.

Also if your having inflamatory problems ice it as much as you can, it can make a big difference.

Thanks for the advice. I know QGL doesn't seem like the best place to look for it, but I think the helpful replies suggests otherwise. :)

Glucosamine. . . Healthfood shop or any pharmacy?

Failing that, it looks like a trip to a specialist.

Pretty much everywhere sells it nowdays. Id just compare the dosages of each tablet/capsule whatever and make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The doctor I talked to said he was under the impression that it is helpful to have vitamin D with it to aid with absorption but from everything else I read that was mainly for calcium and not glucosamine, still, better safe than sorry.

Glucosamine is a component of healthy cartilage, therefore it is only indicated for cartilage-related injuries, primarily osteoarthritis (the arthritis associated with increasing age). It tends to improve pain symptoms, but not joint stiffness. To be effective, a minimum daily dose of 1500mg is required and it needs to be taken for 4 - 6 weeks to see an effect.

Depending on your age and activity, your knee pain is probably not related to osteoarthritis and therefore glucosamine is of questionable benefit. That being said, it doesn't have any serious side effects so if you wanted to give it a go you could (the placebo effect might work wonders here too!).

well, my matey has had bad knees since a tragic dance floor accident in the early 90s

hes already had a couple of ops (arithscopes?)

hes never had more luck with his knees since hes started working out, building the rest of his muscles in his legs

so, id suggest that;
