One thing I've noticed at 37...
Your parents NEVER stop being parents

I'm just glad mine are still around to have a joke and a yarn with each week cause depsite all the crap I put em through as a teenager they rate up there with being my best mates (an no, they weren't hippies, they had no problem with belting me if I did the wrong thing)

ato provides further information

What is the baby bonus?

The baby bonus is a refundable tax offset – even if you do not pay tax, do not have any income or do not have to lodge a tax return you can still claim it. The baby bonus is paid whether or not you currently get any other family benefits.

Who is it for?

If you had a baby or you gained legal responsibility of a child aged under five (for example, through adoption), on or after 1 July 2001 and before 1 July 2004 – whether or not you already have other children – you could receive the baby bonus. Usually, it is the mother of the child who is eligible for the baby bonus.

well, it's been a big couple of days, but I'm finally able to post about it!

Our son Cobey Clarence Mensforth, who was expected to be a daughter (Would have been Eva Ann Mensforth), was born at 7:22pm like Kat said, on the 18th of July. Weighing in at 7lb 4oz (for anyone who cares), and 50cm long. Was quite surprised to see a penis when he came out, but I was over the moon, because I had originally hoped for a boy anyway!

The labor was rather short in comparison to others. Active labor was only 4 hours long, and she had dilated from 4cm to 10cm within 1 hour. It was great, as I was expecting things to take all night, seeing as it was our first!

Both Grosby, and Cobey are very well indeed, and I hope to have them both home from hospital on Friday.

Many thanks to those whom have given their well-wishes, and I'll post some decent pictures when I get them onto PC tomorrow night.

I must have come in late, you were expecting a girl? So when you find out the sex, is there a large chance of them getting it wrong or did you guys slip through the cracks? How much gear had you pruchased expecting a girl?

And grats to all 3 of you.

4 nights for vaginal birth and 5 nights for a c-section is what every midwife and OB has told us throughout the entire process.

Oh, well you must be right spidz... wait - I didn't ask you.

Most women who have no issues are discharged the next day. Considering I have birthed two children, I think I would be more inclined to be aware of what the female form is capable of and in what time frame after giving birth.

Hows about we let Moo answer his own question and save your "I know all about childbirth" until you have at least had one child. The whole "My OB said this so it must be true" is so boring

I didn't ask you spidz

maybe its different for people who can't afford private health cover?

As far as I know, I'll never give birth.

Attended all the anti-natal classes, and been at all the meetings. first question I ask each time is how long? and how much? The answer has been as per my previous post every time.

Trailer park hospitals are like a production line, of course you're out the next day. gotta churn through the knocked up molls quick, they're likely to be back within 12 months anyway!

There was nothing wrong at all Kat :) but thanks for your concern. We did have a temperature issue which was to be monitored over 24 hours, but other than that, it's really just learning how to cope with the newborn while the midwives are around :)
Oh, and the birth date is technically classed as day 0, and you have up to 3 days to stay.

Grosby doesn't have her mum around for her, so she's trying to learn everything she can to be the best mum she can :) I think it's a wise move for anyone with a first-born child to stay in there for a few nights, to get a feel for the ropes. Unless you're a highly trained nanny or high-contact aunt/uncle/carer, you're not likely to know all the little tricks that will help make your life easier (which we're finding out now!)

By the way, for anyone expecting a baby soon, I've been told a secret for that black tar-like baby poo that newborns have for a few days. That stuff sticks to their skin like flies to s***, so to avoid the sticking, rub vasoline on their bums after you change them to help the next one not stick so much. I spent a good 5 mins with the poor naked baby sulking and sooking, just trying to rub that stuff off!

I'm doing a chunk of the nappy changes and his morning bathing etc, which I quite enjoy doing, as it brings out my sissy paternal side! There's not too many feelings quite like rocking your little baby to sleep :)

Tanaka> there is generally never a 100% definitive result unless they have to take bloods due to complications, or they can clearly see a penis. Sometimes the boys will tuck them in and not give them a clear look.

I must say I saw the 3 lines of what i've seen as a girl's anatomy in many an ultrasound picture, and I was even myself convinced it was a girl. Strangely not! It's not a rare occurrence that the 12 week scan would be incorrect or inconclusive. My sister went through her entire pregnancy not knowing the sex, even though she wished to, because her boy didn't open his damned legs up.

We did have more than one ultrasound too, however some midwives don't like the thought of people knowing and the cow at the second ultrasound barely touched on the gender, even though we said we wished to confirm. Could've saved us a lot of time and money on new clothes.

Not true. Some people have it and some don't. But glad to hear you guys are going well and you are taking advantage of the midwives. If you don't know anything about caring for a newborn it can be pretty scarey and not asking for help will only end in disaster

Not sure if hsaring the secrets on here will help anyoine though :p

Geez you're a twit... implying grosby don't have it, but you do, because you've got the sEcReTs tO sHaRe

I'm sure 99% of mothers "have it" .. being an animal instinct to care for one's young

I am happy to be called a twit for standing up for myself when someone implies that if you 'have it' then you have to have had a nanny or carer.

You said it yourself, most women do because it is animal instinct - so what is your issue? You agree with what I am saying.

I wish them all the best and if they are trying to absorb as much info as they can then good on em. Doesn't mean they have to minimise others abilties who don't need that help.

thanks for the tip, nobody has mentioned that at anti-natal yet, but we still have 4 more weeks of classes so maybe we can squeeze in some info about turds there somewhere!

Kat: sure you can go home and do it yourself without help. Thats called trial and error - lucky you didn't make an error...

Other parents rightly or wrongly seek advice from the experts who deliver and care for 1500 babies a year. I'm comfortable with our choice.

f*** off the lot of you.
This WAS a thread about celebrating the birth of Grosby’s child, and you have turned it into another one of your petty bitch fights.
