So um er.. I choked and bought a xbox 360 yesterday..for the kids of course. Traded in the old xbox at EB Indro, bought the second controller/game pak and away we went.

Got home and hooked it all into the Home theatre s***, set the optical sound in thru the AV receiver up on the HDTV and holy s*** batman am I impressed or what! We only have a few games at the mo...Perfect Dark, Project Gotham(?) and Kameo (I think)..all are pretty bloody cool but what,s impressed me is running the games in high res definitions is how much power the thing appears to have...the framerates are really very impressive. The games really do look so sweet on the windescreen.

So what games do any other 360 owners recommend?..although I reckon we will be playing these three for a while yet, I'd like any heads up for stuff on the horizon. I am led to believe that the game 'Gears of War' is supposed to be the next big thing??

Also is xbox live worth a look or not much chop here in Oz? and does anyone have their xbox set up on a wireless network at all, how does it perform etc..

cheers

p.s the kids got it because their school report cards were awesome.

:P (that's my story and I'm stickin to it)

hahaha that's awesome psycho, i remember my old man buying me a sega master system for christmas one year and i wasn't allowed to play the bloody thing for 3 days because him and mum were obsessed with alex the kid, although i'm sure the graphics are alot better then alex the kid, but back then i'm sure they were like "WHOA CHECK OUT THESE FRAMERATES" haha..

I was playing EA fight night on xbox 360 at JB the other day and man were the graphics great. Ive played a few other games but I was particularly impressed with this one. Only bad thing I guess is its a bit complicated for the kids to play but great game otherwise.

yer for the kids... nice! ;]
i haven't actually seen elder scrolls:oblivion for the xbox360 but a dude here at work reckons it's awesome. dethon just got a gainward 7800gs 512mb for his pc & that projecting oblivion with his panasonic ae900 proj with a dvi-d to hdmi cable is THE FUKN SHIZ!@!@#!! 1280x720 widescreen , hdr lighting & all the settings on max is incredible. i have never seen outdoor computer game imagery look so lush & clear & run so smoothy. we did notice that even though his setup can get decent fps @ 1920x1080... it looked a hell of a lot clearer @ 1280x720 because that is the native resolution for the lcd in his projector.

Yeah get Fight Night 3 (for yourself and not for your kids). It is one damn sexy game. I did a mini review of it here a while back http://qgl.ausforums.com/?agn=thread&id=2424681

Games for yourself psyhco whould be.

Gears of war / Lostplanet / G.R.A.W / Prey / Call Of Duty 2 / Oblivion. (judging from most other posts your into first person shooters)

For the Kids.

Grab every thing of xbox arcarde, Kameno, King Kong, Rockstar Table Tenis, Amped 3.

For a total listing have a look Here, as for the console its self it beats my pc in terms of speed (64 3500+, x800xtpe agp, 1 gig ram, 2x80 gig sata raid) its really nice peice of hardware you do really need a nice widescreen lcd or plasma to run off it imho that or projector, with the wireless you can buy a bridge router bit bulky using ethernet to wireless much easier just to get the xbox 360 wireless adaptor (ms rip you off here its basicly marvel chipset based usb controler plus a security chip) that thing does A/B/G they reconmend using A mode with compatible router, i use mine in G mode runs fine no hassles. :)

I haven't really played much since I finished Kameo.
Playing a 'serious' game on a console just doesn't really appeal too much that much, I like to lie back in the couch and play something simple and fun. So Kameo was good - and a heap of Xbox Live games - looking forward to poker!

GRAW stepped into the 'too serious' category so I gave up quickly.
Table Tennis was fun for about 5 minutes.
Perfect Dark was meh'ish.

Yeh I have Oblivion running on my sli setup on the computer and yes it is very awesome..never played that type of game before and it still draws me back most days for a quest or two. :)

thanks for the other suggestions.

also I read somewhere that there is a demo game , Hexic, somewhere on the HDD of the xbox, sort of a tetris type thing..i cant find it anywhere. (This might only apply to machine in the US not sure though)

Psst, not liking one console out of 3 isn't fanboyism

It is when the 2 you "like" don't actually exist yet.

It isn't when the 2 you "like" aren't on the market yet but have fully functional prototypes that have been played people you personally know, a fully catalogued release library, hundreds of trailers, hundreds of previews and 4 years of history in the previous generation to help an informed choice.

Get Xbox live ... most games can be downloaded as demo's to play so gives you a great idea of what's worth buying. As a side note, the highest percentage of demo->purchase on it is ... wait for it .... UNO!

ive bought/or played every xbox360 released in aus so far

if your wanting prettyness fightnight round 3 for the win. it looks amazing has different control system to any other fighting game and you honestly feel like you just watching a fight on the tele.

for good gameplay, nice gfxs and all round coolness graw is probably the best on offer. we played it on reso's mums hd plasma and i still have wet dreams. there a moments you feel like your actually standing behind some guy in a warzone, but then theres moment the game gets a little cheesy and you laugh. but all up its a rocking. the online play is probably the best you will find atm.

xbox live is ok, gold subscription is required if you want to play games only and as previously stated the only game i think justifies paying for it is graw, though playing doa online and fightnight has been fun nothing compares to graw.
the s*** thing about live is most stuff you want you have to pay for which sucks when you have to add a cost on top of your subscription.

anyway, xbox360 is still a new console and it hasnt come close to its full potential expect great great things more closer to end of year when the wii and ps3 release dates get close.

yeah hashy you sound like a twit. however even twits are entitled to an opinion, but make it and move on..its a 360 thread, dont like it? dont post

for those 360 people with Live. How are the pings? im thinking of getting one around Christmas, and while im a PC online player mainly, I would like to be able to jump in and play some PG3 or GRAW online.

I remember hearing with Xbox 1 that the pings were generally crappy? (over 200 etc?). Are there any Aussie servers?

him and mum were obsessed with alex the kid,

OMG, Alex Kid...I used to love that game!! Graphics were nothing compared to modern games, sure, but still...awesome game!! (and unlike games now like WoW, u didn't end up giving up ur life to finish the game)

popular games are fine you can generally find and aussie server to play on, but unpopular games very rarely have somewhere locally to play thus you are stuck with playing overseas and then it can rarely vary.

when i play on aussies servers i never need to worry about ping so ive never looked to see what exactly its running at.

ive hosted a few times and even with 16 people on my adsl2 connection lag wise its fine.
