Alrighty guys and girls, long time since I've posted on here.
Couple of weeks back, I started getting this error from an ASUS A8V Deluxe. I haven't had the time to take any real notice of it, but after mucking around with it for a bit it became obvious that at random the thing would either try and start up with some devices / fans powering up and others not. First thing this morning, headed out and bought a 470w e-power poersuppply, whacked that in and all devices power up now, but the CPU check error is still there. I've tried the usual things, clearing the CMOS, removing the CPU and replacing it, running on one stick of RAM in slot 3, swapping the RAM, putting new RAM in, removng all but the basics to get rid of any conflicts, removing the whole system from the case to make sure there are no shorts, etc. I've tested the processor and RAM in another sytem and they both seem to be working fine. System ran perfectly for about 9 months before this, then at random has appeared to given up the go. Any suggestions? I'm googling it atm, but none of the fixes being offered there sound like my problem. Has anyone by chance come across something like it or have any other useful suggestions? the only thing i can suggest is removing the board from the system and letting it sit overnight with nothing attached to it. sounds unlikely but has worked for me in times of need.
but most likely the board is dead. check capacitors to see if they've blown. but since the psu died it prolly took a wee piece of your mobo with it |

thanks guys,
I've tried using the EZFLASH, but I can't get that to load, which is probably not a good sign. Looking at the asus website though, my CPU definitely isn't supported by the board without BIOS flashing it first, which i've never done. Makes me wonder how its been going for the past 9 months if a BIOS flash is whats requied. |

oooooooh a8v... that'll do it for ya :P
Asus = piece of piss to flash 1) download and install Asusflash from the asus website 2) download correct BIOS from asus website 3) use asusflash IN WINDOWS to update your BIOS 4) reset when prompted 5) setup freshly flashed BIOS 6) ..... profit? Sounds risky in windows I know but so far I have had no asus boards fail a flash using it, and I would have done several hundred. |
