Listening to the converstaion,
Didnt the AOL guy ask why the dude was disconecting, and the Dude said cause he hasnt used it for a while. Then the AOL guy starts to mention how there has been significant usage of it over the last month, then the Dude didnt listen and never let the guy get a word in. Is that what happned I only listened to it once? |

^ agreed. He called to cancel his account not have a plesant chat on how AOL could keep his business. Plus even the "management" of AOL agreed the AOL rep went to far with the way he acted.

exactly tanaka. but firing him would have been a bad judgement for quality anyway.
better would be to ask what the customer wanted, and probably cut back on those type of antics and start some new training or something. |

Pffft. 15 minutes to cancel your account is nothing. Try spending 1 hour on hold, just to get some ditzy c*** in India who wouldn't know Surfboard modem from a f***in' toaster, try and tell you that the fault you are experiencing is a problem at my end!

typo: download caps, slow internets etc etc The people who complain about those things are, in general, ignorant of the situation. Unlike places with a heavy technology base and a very high population density Australian ISPs simply can’t afford too offer similar deals. Look at New York state, it’s population (19 million) is around the same as all of Australia (23 million). New York state’s population per square mile is 406.5, while Australia’s population density is about 1.6 per square mile. What’s interesting is that you don’t have internet speeds of epic proportion in all parts of New York state. So, let’s narrow it down too on part of New York state that has fantastic and cheap internet coverage, New York City. As of 2003, New York City had 8,085,742 with a population density of 26,658.3 people per square mile. As of 2005 Brisbane City has a population of about 1,810,943, giving it a population density of 236.8 people per square mile. When Telstra came out with its cable it was cheap and unlimited. That quickly went away once the average user just downloaded vast quantities of s*** simply “because they could”. Optus started with an amazingly fair price with the ability too have large downloads managed by a rolling quota, but that got f***ed by people abusing the system too. We just don’t have enough people too balance the loss of morons. Then the AOL guy starts to mention how there has been significant usage of it over the last month, then the Dude didnt listen and never let the guy get a word in. Is that what happned I only listened to it once? The gut also told the helpdesk guy that he was wrong, as his Dad doesn’t even have the software installed on his computer anymore. If they had DSL (which they did) and a router (which they probably did) then the hours per month usage is probably made up by the router connected, but not doing anything. Anyway, who cares if there was significant usage over the last month? If I want to churn from s***c***ISP too say Internode I shouldn’t have too have a long conversation about it. The customer rep did his job when he asked if there was anything wrong with the software, and by asking if there was anything else he could do too improve their service. However, it should have become obvious too him that the customer wasn’t going to continue his service when he said “I don’t know how too say this any more clearly, so I’ll say it one more time, disconnect the account”. |

better would be to ask what the customer wanted, and probably cut back on those type of antics and start some new training or something. AOL customer reps have been told that if they have more than 3 disconnections an hour their passkeys won’t work in the morning. I.E. They’d get fired. |

You’re right, it probably is the AOL management who forced it. I agree, there is nothing wrong about wanting a better internet in Australia. However, the adaptation is going to be slow. Complaining that Australian ISPs are bad isn’t going to solve anything. I mean, if Optus could provide plans simular too that of say New York City ISPs, and make a profit, they’d be there with bells on. |

i cancelled my bpa account last week, after being on hold for about 2 mins, i got a very friendly lady who changed the address and killed the account in about 2 mins also. i was blown away, to get onto telstra and have something sorted out in under 5 mins? fark.

Tiny, not once in that clip was it mentioned he lived with his father. The only reason the father was mentioned was because the AOL guy assumed he was talking to a minor. My father lives in Warwick and myself in Wishart and we both have access to each other's internet accounts and details. The AOL guy didn't need to know why the account was being cancelled, his job WAS to cancel the account, not play 20 questions.
Plus, so what if he's 30 and lives with his father? Perhaps he looks after his father? I see no logic as to why you would bring that up?? I know people 30+ who still live with their parents (Hi Rev!) and there's nothing wrong with it. |

i can't see what the AOL rep did wrong? Did you bother watching the whole clip? After being told that the guy wanted to cancel his account and had given his name etc, it should have been processed straight away, not to be told in a condicending way that he's making a mistake. |

i dont see what this has to do with Aus ISP's i have never had a problem canceling an account with any ISP or any other account for that matter, just the other day i canceled my Foxtel took all of 3 mins including the obligatory qestion, "is there a reason your unhappy with our service" not a big f***ing deal.

It is never mentioned, or even suggested, in the news article that he lives with his dad. Arguing that he is a deadbeat adult kid who lives at home because he was terminating his dads AOL account is absurd. After searching for the keywords “wife” on his blog, it appears that he is happily married to one Beth Ferrari. It doesn’t sound like he is some douchbag living in his fathers basement, it sounds like he is supporting his father in his old age. |

i had the same problem with optus. I was moving into another house which already had cable internet at that address.
I rembember telling the optus rep MANY TIMES that "I do not require your services at my new address!" The optus cable rep had replied with a lot of "WHY's?" and "BUT's?" Its annoyinging how these big companies do this. |
