Just moved into a new place and I am having power issues. One of the power switches on the meterboard keeps getting tripped. We don't have excessive amounts of appliances plugged in, but for some reason seemingly at random the power to certain points will go off. Luckily my computer isn't on the affected switch. I had a look on the meterboard and noticed that there is a switch that changes between 250v and 70A. It is currently set to 70A. Would this have anything to do with it? (see pic) http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5924/img06613tz.jpg Otherwise I guess we will have to switch one appliance on at a time to try to locate what is doing it. I guess it could also be faulty wiring (renovated Queenslander) but I don't know much about electricity. If there is no solution I will have to get real estate to send an electrician, but just thought one of you might know about the 250V/70A switch. Thanks. |

dude that is the main power switch & it's either on or off. 250V 70A is the rating of what it switchs. it looks like you got 2 different power point cct breakers & the first one is tripping. you will need to find out which side of the house that cct breaker is controlling & then unplug all appliances from that cct & reset the breaker. then plug one appliance back in at a time till the cct breaker trips again which will show you which appliance is to blame.
if you plug all the appliances back in & it doesn't trip immediately but does trip after a while there is either an overloading problem (too many devices on the one cct) or a wiring problem (like a high resistance connection). if it's looking like a wiring problem you'll have to get an electrician. |

unplug all appliance... test one at a time...
that switch is the main switch...leave that on..... its not actually changing between 70 amps and 250 volts hehe. the power circuit thats tripping... just test all ur appliances on that circuit... then f*** off whatever one keeps tripping it... but that may not be the issue... thats about all u can do mate. a sparky will have to look at it... its impossible for me to diagnose the fault... with what u've given me |

The spelling in this thread is pathetic, you should all unplug yourselves one by one.

demon is on the money (as usual) :)
* I suspect it might be a high-impedance fault to ground, such that the fault current is not large enough to instantaneously trip the breaker but eventually violates its time/curent curve... Let us know how it goes Vege |

there is no need for such accuracy of pi :)
pi trivia : if one were to find the circumference of a circle the size of the known universe, requiring that the circumference be accurate to within the radius of one proton only 39 decimal places of Pi would be necessary. last edited by demon at 09:22:34 27/Jun/06 |
