FOUR complete bombs including one filled with razor blades had been found in a suburban Brisbane home, police said today.

Ten detonators were also found at the home in Windrest Avenue, Aspley, in Brisbane's north, after police executed a search warrant last night.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Wilson said a 40-year-old man had been charged and would face court in Brisbane today for fraudulently obtaining 53kg of an explosive substance known as Powergel.

Police have also evacuated Ferny Grove High School in Brisbane's northwest, where the arrested man worked.

Crazy, just herd about it now, i live pretty close to the school and went there for 5 years.

I got the story from my cousin (I live right near there and drove past thinking wtf).

Apparently it was a manual arts teacher (not going to say the name) and the school was searched around 3am after he was arrested. He had a court appearance at 10am today and then at morning tea the evacuation alarm sounded and everyone was on the oval for 3 hours.

The thing is... You have inner city northside where the good people live and the further out you go the more insane they become. Same with the southside.

There was just an update on the news and he was a media studies teacher (same back area as manual arts for those that know the school). They have found all the powergel stuff too apparently.

His name is howard something or other. If you left before 2001 you wont know him...at least..I dont :P

His name has been released on the news, ASIO (?sp?) got him becuase he bought over a certain amount of fertiliser (to make the explosives) and it flagged him.

He claims that A) He has an ASIO level red access to make the devices and B) he was making it for a movie/film shoot.

2 reasons I call bulls*** is because A) he shouldnt need razorblades etc to make explosives for a movie and B) If he has ASIO clearance....why did they bust him? :P

Anyway, this dude was my sister's man arts teacher. Apparently he's f***en useless, and has absolutely no idea what the f*** he was doing when it came to the subject.

Apparently they found a bomb in the science block or something too. f*** that.

The teacher said the explosives were bought to use in a commercial. Then what were the nails and razor blades for?

The news keeps showing all the bombs and a copy of a book about Osama Bin Laden at the bombers house at Aspley (dA H00d).

Knowing how the media love to sensationalise s*** I bet everything was found in his bathroom & the razors were nothing more than what he used to shave (which just happened to be sitting next to the boom s***) and he had a jar of nails under the sink (cause that's where he kept his odds an ends) as well.

Brisbane teacher to face court again over explosives find
A 40-year-old Brisbane teacher will reappear in court today charged over a stockpile of bombs and other explosive material found at his northside home.

John Howard Amundsen was arrested last night, with police declaring an emergency situation in the neighborhood.

Police evacuated 30 houses near Amundsen's Aspley home and the Ferny Grove State High school where he works.

He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon charged with fraudulently obtaining the material.

Police opposed bail, arguing Amundsen was an unacceptable risk to public safety.

Amundsen told Magistrate Lindy Bradford Morgan the explosives were to make special effects devices for a television production and were safely stored.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear in court today where police say he is likely to face more charges.

Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Wilson says federal police are helping with the investigation.

"At this stage, we are profiling the person, the background, the explosive devices, the creation of those devices," he said.

"We are working with our other state and federal agencies - both law enforcement and explosives experts - in relation to what we have discovered."

"John Howard Amundsen"

Obviously a foreigner who only knew one australian name when he came over changing it to that to seem more "Australian" before he started bombing us.

Because John Howard is such an inconspicuous name in this country.

No one suspected the white guy.

If he did in fact borrow his name maybe he borrowed it from the actor?...

Also, I've heard from somebody who knows somebody who's married to somebody that works at the school that he was a pretty useless teacher. Didn't know his subject, couldn't control his class that type of stuff. All the teachers thought he was odd. His contract wasn't going to be renewed at the end of the semester/year. If I was a betting man, I would put money on him making bombs to blow up the school/his employers because he was going to lose his job. (If his supposed links to Osma's bunch don't pan out that is.)

I have no idea as to this guys guilt or not but I do take issue with the media sensationalism about him having a book about Osama Bin Laden. And a book about Hitler.

So what? They weren't even written by those people. It wasn't Mein Kampf or Osama's Guide to Blowing Up The West (no idea if Osama's written a book or not). They were books written about both of them.

Did he have a book about George Bush too? What about a book about Jesus? Or Leonardo DaVinci. Or even Leonardo DiCaprio (ok that would probably make him weird).

From the sounds of the title they weren't any sort of questionable book. They sounded like the sort of books you can buy in your local bookstore.

So basically because this guy has a couple of books he picked up at his local bookstore this helps prove (to the media's and public's eye) that he's a terrorist?

If so, then let's start banning all these possibly questionable books! Because reading them (or just owning them) obviously makes you a terrorist!

Need to ban all porn magazines too because sometimes rapists/serial killers are found to have porn mags when arrested. And I imagine some of those guntoting serial killing nutjobs (think Martyn Bryant and the American Postal Worker of the week) might have had a porn mag stashed somewhere too.

Should ban all violent videogames for the same reason. They're murder simulators after all.

And I guess if we're banning books about political figures that advocated war (and in some cases waged it) we really should ban books about most politicians. Esp. books about American presidents. Well certainly those favourable about them.

As I said, maybe the guy is guilty, and if so I hope he gets the special prize of a long "holiday" away from real life behind bars.

But having a couple of books about a couple of infamous people is irrelevant to the case and I think it's terrible that our media is so slanted and sensationalist that it thinks nothing of singling out such details for publication? What about what brand of toothpaste he used?!!!! Boxers or Briefs? Holden or Ford?

I thought the media were calling him a terrorist because he is being/has been charged under the anti-terrorism laws? As the laws mention terrorism, terrorist acts he's been labelled as a terrorist. While I don't agree with him being tried by media, the connection is obvious to me. I agree, the having of books is completely irrelevant and it's just the media latching onto something and runing with it. I don't think it deserved a speil as big as you gave.

The laws aren't specifically against Al Qaeda or the Bali group you can be charged under the laws if you make efforts to bring down any government or essential service. Wanting to blow up the Boxer or Ford factory would probably make you a terrorist as well; it would just depend on the strength of prosecutions case.

My post was as long as it was as I normally make long posts. :)

Again, I have no issues with the media saying he's a suspected terrorist. It's just the beating up the story with irrelevant details like the books that annoys me.
