Second one is pretty cool.
Let's not discuss the first.

Like them both, albeit a little bright

What kinda camera ?

I'm just getting into it also, got a 350D atm..

Just ordered a book in - which is highly recommended by all the SA guys.. If you want a nice online community to compare photos with I'd strongly recommend the SA Crew - The CC (Creative Convention) section has some very talented and helpful photographers there, not to mention the traffic through the site is ridiculous.. Oh the book sorry its the National (NOT AUSTRALIAN) Geographic Photographers Field Guide.. Just ordered it into Angus & Robertson at Toowong, took about a week, so it shouldnt be too hard to find, er too many wines hope this makes sense

Same as you

Since taking them I have figured out what ap is so brightness should no longer be a problem

my opinion: they're not sharp. use a large ape (small fstop) to create a wide depth of field. you could have the irish sharp, but either side (forground and background not). that would draw the viewers attention to the subject (the iris) better.

also, i dont like the compostion. try "rule of thirds" with the iris

do you have the f/1.8 or the f/1.4 USM 50mm?

I have the f/1.8 and have taken shots like this:

I love short depth of field shots, though I'll admit the first one isn't quite sharp enough.

Have been doing photography for two years now. Currently doing landscapre, motorsport, nature, live music events and model shoots.

Everything i've learnt has been self taught, either reading online guides, books or just plain trial and error(which is best way of learning)

Some of my work over the two years - http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88339

nice shots but a bit overexposed IMO, probably widen up the apature a little to but thats personal taste. as for the 75-600, with a tele converter i assume (EF 75-300 IS? perhaps) because i've never seen a 600mm zoom in EF mount.

once i finish setting up my gallery i'll post back here.

also mooby have a look at the sigma "bigma" 50-500, can be had easily for under 1000 pounds, f6.3 on the long end but unless you dump $10k+ you wont get any faster.

it means the apeture size. smaller the number, the faster the lens.

Anyone know any decent digital camera review sites?

Looking to buy a point and shoot camera....my current choices are either the Canon IXUS 55 or the Kodak V550.

I'd love to have a camera that takes photos instantly. Like the good old days with film. But minimum for a fast snaping point and shoot is 700, and i dont want an SLR. Oh well.
