Isnt thx certification just a statement that if such and such equipment is set up in such and such a way then it complies with thx standards? IE if you have a THX compatible sound system unless its set up in a room with particular features blah blah blah it isnt the "THX experience" or more plainly again utterly worthless...

Umm, yea pete is right there....

THX isn't a format like DTS and DD - it's a set of specifications. The settings specified by THX don't necessarily mean "good sound" or "better sound than other settings".... in fact it usually means worse sound than a system can potentially produce with more 'ideal' settings. Particularly in respect to speaker crossover and LFE cutoff settings.

read stuff here, that explains the best settings depending on your setup.

The better the speakers, the further away from THX settings the 'optimum' settings are.

Yeah THX is all about the positioning of the speakers etc.., you need like a certified THX person to check it.

Personally I would watch my favourite movie, or in this case yours.

Seriously, what better way to christen the home theatre system than by watching a personal favourite.

Saving Private Ryan, first scene obviously.

Terminator 2

Jurassic Park

But really, Saving Private Ryan. Try and find the new version which supports DTS.

A number of years back my father got himself a kick arse system, and was told to try either Top Gun or Star Wars to test out the sound.

I cranked up my surround setup the other night when we watched King Kong, and in the action scenes it was awesome, especially the last scenes where he is getting strafed by the biplanes etc..

Listen to Henry Rollins's apartment being broken into with the shotgun in Heat.

Nearly fell flat on my ass listening to that on my Brothers home theatre.
