I have a 2000 box running 24/7, but no users is every logged in. is there a way to have skype run as a service, and use a handset like this?

I was going to go for the usb handset, but a Netgear 11mbit wireless handset is about to be released onto the unsuspecting Australian telemarket :P

unfunny geek jokes aside - it's nice to see some service-based company websites are already including shortcuts to skype-based commuinations for support/information purposes for their clientel. I sure don't want to waste moeny on STD phonecalls to Melbourne/Syd/Internationally everytime I need tech support for something that's over my head - that stuff 'should' be free. With Skype it can be :)

It's interesting that (still active??) Qgl sponsor: Quantum Data and Electrical's subsidury "Acorn Software" uses just this facility with 'Skype'. You just click on the icon on the webpage... and 'presto' - you're talking to someone in 'support' about your problem via pc-based VOIP.

apparently, many modern pda/mobile phones can run Skype as an option when/if they pickup an open gateway to the 'net via wireless. After giving this a go, I've gotta say it's pretty damn impressive!

as for running the software as a service (you need to???) - you could try asking 'Bear' aka Steve from Quantum (company link is on Qlg main page). He's always been helpful to Qgl regs in the past. Ya never now what his IT crew might throw your way in terms of Skype info.
