"I just killed a kid," Charles Martin told the emergency services operator. "I shot him with a goddamn 410 shotgun twice."

He had gunned down Larry Mugrage, his neighbours' 15-year-old son. The teenager's crime: walking across Mr Martin's lawn on his way home. Mr Martin opened fire from his house and then, according to the police, walked up to the wounded boy and pulled the trigger again at close range, killing him.

A child is killed by a gun every three hours in America.

On average, more than 80 Americans are killed by gunfire every day.

holy s*** america is f***ed up.

From the end of that article:

Mr Martin had every right to his .410 (11mm) bore shotgun. Ohio does not require anyone buying any firearm to have a permit. Nor does the state require gunowners to have a licence, although some inner city municipalities have stricter rules. Most state legislatures considering gun legislation are seeking to relax the remaining controls. Last year, Florida introduced a law giving its citizens the right to "stand their ground" and open fire, even in a public place, if they feel threatened, and the gun lobby is trying to pass a bill in the state that would allow workers to bring guns into their workplace with or without their employer's consent.

Holy f***ing s***.

Under pressure from the NRA, the Republican-run House of Representatives is investigating the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for "abuse" of its power for cracking down on rural "gun shows" where controls on sales are generally looser.

What's the problem?

"I've been being harassed by him and his parents for five years. Today just blew it up. Kid's just been giving me a bunch of s***, making the other kids harass me and my place, tearing things up."

He's an old man, they've been harassing him, what did they expect? Him to just take it? Suddenly it's boo hoo hoo I'm dead cos me and my mates have been picking on this old man for the last 5 years.

They shouldn't have picked on him on the first place *shrug*.

It's the classic, why pick a fight unless you are ready to die.

Larry Mugrage will be mourned in Union Township as another victim of inexplicable rage, but the means used to kill him are unlikely to raise many eyebrows
Of course, if he didnt have the gun, he would have had to have chased the kid with a baseball bat or sword or such, giving the kid a billion fold chance higher of survival.

I saw this on the news. All the neighbours said that he was a quiet kind bloke who loved his lawn. They said the kid must have pretty much pushed the guys buttons in regards to the lawn for him to crack.

What a waste of a life

That's the problem with weak gun laws. The people who take advantage of them and buy guns are the ones who feel the most need to use them. And the people who feel the most need to use them are not ordinary citizens who are a little concerned that Saddam might escape his Iraqi prison and try to rob an Oklahoma 7eleven, they are head f***s like this guy who feel the need to shoot the f*** out of the neighbours son for leaving a muddy footprint on his front path.

Simply, a large number of the people who want guns are precisely the people who shouldn't have them. Australian gun laws are better because if you don't have a genuine need for the gun you want, then you don't get the bang bang. I mean, giving guns to the people who can think of situations when they would use them...scares the s*** outta me.

the genuine reason stuff is utter rubbish Huon. get a clue.

easy for just about anybody in Australia to score a pistol, or a 410 shotty.

all it really takes is a letter from a landowner for a cat a/b (410 bang bang) plus club membership for a H class(yippee kiyay Hans)

think of all the dumarse rent-a-cops around who wield glocks. and youre telling me its hard to get firearms approvals in Aus?

Scoggex, I think its much harder now to get a license for a concealable handgun.

The law was updated only a few yrs ago after that crazy asian guy walked into a Melbourne Uni lecture hall with 6 handguns under his shirt and proceeded to slay and maim innocent ppl.

Ah my apologies, I didn't know there was sense in murder these days. I'll retract my statement about fighting as well, there's lots of sense in that!

Fight fight fight!

er and I bet you like 'cigarettes' as much 'mates' ;)
