i was burning a dvd the other day, got to 100% (doing the end of the write) and computer crashes. Since then I cannot burn anything, it tells me to insert a writable media. ive tried erasing a rw and burning onto that but with no luck.
deleted the dvd drive from devices, reinstalled but still isnt working.

any ideas? thanks

edit: using nero express and 1 click dvd copy. both dont work :(

ok well its a bit of a f***around but probably quickest way to diagnose in the first place, try putting the drive in another pc and seeing if that works

Off topic here but quick question. If you want to copy a DVD and only have a dvd burner in your pc (no dvd rom). Do most programs support saving the dvd to disk then burning it onto a new disc? I assume they do, just wondering how long this process usually takes, I am getting a dvd burner but do not want to purchase a dvd rom as well.

Cleaned the Laser?
Tried installing / reinstalling latest firmware for the burner?
Tried the drive on a different IDE port?
Tried a different cable? (<- highly unlikely the cause though)

Try updating the firmware
re-installing your burning progam or try something else just to test
remove the drive from device manager & reboot & let windows find it again
re-install your motherboard drivers, or just the IDE drivers is your drivers support that option
