did you try making ffdshow use that codec through the ffdshow video decoder config ?

Actually that is awesome .. the only codec pack so far that has managed to install the correct codecs so I could watch one particular episode of a mob show I obtained.

ewwww codec packs. Get GSpot and analyse what codecs you actually NEED, rather than installing s***loads of stuff at random.

doesn't divx pro have a whole bunch of adware built into it? (unless you pay for it of course) or has that been removed since divx6 came out?

That doesn't always work, take for example the video I tried to watch. Even though GSpot said the codecs were installed it would not play at all. Remove codec after codec, reinstall the codec GSpot advised, etc and nothing worked.

I've been using the K-lite mega codec pack for nearly a year now, and I've had no problems with it, all the movies i've tried work.

The _only_ codec 'pack' you need is ffdshow. It doesn't install heaps of little codecs for each 4c, it's a simple direct show single filter that'll do almost all media formats (except quicktime and real). Best thing about ffdshow is you don't end up with lots of little programs around the place like divx player etc, and it'll work pretty much out of the box for anything in any direct show player (mpc, vlc, media player, bsplayer).

I downloaded the pack. Works like a charm. Just one codec pack installed and not a few :)

so, uh, you only just found this?

I don't even have ffdshow, I just stick vlc + mpc on here, between them the fight out who gets to play what & they play most of the random crap I want to see.

I had ffdshow for a while, then I noticed that whenever it started my system would lag hardcore and the first few seconds of every video would be lost

VLC uses most of the same base libraries ffdshow does.

another vote for defilerpak ^^

it just works, always has, minimum fuss, minimum components to cover just about everything you'd need
