And the other good news is that they're doing 26 new episodes of
''Futurama'' for TV and we're hammering out the deal now.The original
plan was to have the DVD's first but that's no longer the case.

It'd only be blasphemous if it were the other way around.

i think you should be more specific, the first couple of seasons were mostly s*** too (generally anything that centered around bart)

Yeah until they realised that Homer was the funny one it was s***. Also, any episode centered around lisa or marge is s***.

true

but there have been enough classic simpsons that earn it the respect it needs to not be labelled as 'ghey' ever.

simpsons, futurama, family guy, american dad, and southpark own.

Yeah homer trying to collect mister burn's mail is pure gold.
older simpsons is great. The simpsons website has some awesome quotes from grandpa on it.

"I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it and whats it seems weird and scary to me. IT'LL HAPPEN TO YOU"

I had never seen the 5 series of futurama, personally I can see why it got canned. But that said everything up to that was fkn awesome and clowned on the simpsons.

hopefully these new episodes will be good.

http://www.gamearena.com.au/account/avatars/128110.gif

also, futurama, like american dad, takes a little bit of getting used to, then it's better than the other (family guy/simpsons)

so many better characters in futurama, zoid, zap, fry (bart and homer mix?), amy, professor ... actually list them all ... even kif has a funny thing to say from time to time

and wtfbbq

but seriously, I dont find it boring at all. The first 2 seasons would have to be the best comedy cartoons I have ever seen. I like family guy but the "its just like the time I..." gets a little old. That and I find meg utterly repulsive, even when she is joking about how she isnt funny it isnt funny.

"Kif have the boy layout my shirt and pants."

"The boy sir?"

"You, you layout my shirt and pants"

I mean come on :)

u r gay 4 not liking it.

As dice alluded to, Futurama is particularly strong on character development. Casual viewers of scattered episodes derive far less enjoyment/amusement than those who actually follow the series (as opposed to say The Simpsons and Family Guy where it's easy to laugh at a random episode).

edit: hit the post button a bit late. PornoPete knows where it's at. Family Guy has its moments, but the complete lack of plot (in the most recent episodes), unlikeable characters (Meg certainly is the most repulsive, but I find only Stewie and Brian tolerable in the long term) and reliance on exactly the same joke over, and over, and over, and over again... does not a good long term concept make. Oh, and Drawn Together suffers from almost exactly the same problem - all shock value and nothing particularly compelling in the long run.

yeah I'm not sure what Family Guy are playing at with making meg and chris such bloody useless characters

I agree that Futurama is character driven - in the footsteps of The Simpsons - in my experience casual viewers of Futurama don't like it but anyone who does has either watched it from the beginning or had a friend who introduced them.

also, how boring would the world be if everyone liked the same s***

oh no :( Billy West got too excited and gave out wrong info. Heres the latest update:

I'm sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon.I was told on one end that the
TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was
not the case.I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD's but I appearently
had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must've
died or something.

apparently only 4 movies are coming out on dvd or something....

yeah that sucks

also for people who don't like futurama, watch "The Day the Earth stood stupid" and "Amazon Women in the Mood" ... classy eps. (oh and Anthology of Interest II is awesome for the "What if life were more like a game" part)

as a dedicated family guy fan, i agree ... Stewie and Brian are the only tolerable ones in the long run of the family, but Peter does make for some good calls at times (despite his irritating personality). Mayor Adam West is awesome though, as is Quagmire, and the flashbacks haven't got old for me yet, nor have the cuts to other shows ... like that one where they go to Bewitched, "Yeah, you know what this is? Yeah, Holy Water, the Power of Christ compels you bitch."

American Dad is my fave atm due to Stan though, love his character. Without him I'd probably just be hating on the annoying mother and daughter, they're as bad as Chris and Meg.

Jurrasic Bark is a classic episode, and I happened to watch The Sting for the first time high, about a year ago, and it was one of the most f***ed up experiences of my life.

Question for you all, if it is so good why did it flop in the ratings?

No offence, as I am sure some of you will take this to heart. But it just aint that good, it is the poor man's Simpsons. It set the bench mark for all Cartoon's and nothing will ever come close.

That's a strong statement for a man with a small post count :P

If it's that bad why did the DVD sales go as well as they did?

Futurama got cancelled not because of bad ratings but because Groening owned the rights and not Fox which meant they couldn't whore it like they did the Simpsons and decided that consequently it wasn't fiscally beneficial.

Because most people don't get half the jokes or don't understand half of what was going on.

That's why awesome shows like Futurama and Arrested Development get cancelled, and incredibly stupid shows like that new Jenna Elfman s how keep getting made.

nah, trog just likes to use quality shows like futurama to name drop a s*** show like arrested development; to try and build legitimacy for it by association. as if all of a sudden we will go "oh yeh futurama is a great show and so is this other show that this guy keeps mentioning in the same breath as it."

other tiems he has done it:

bruce willis and arrested development
the vomit scene from family guy and arrested development
bender and arrested development
booze and arrested development
mexican food and arrested development
jenna elfman and arrested development

March 21, 2006 - In a move that has to be a big disappointment to Futurama fans, voice actor Billy West has recanted his earlier statement that the animated series would be returning with new episodes. On his website West apologized, explaining that he'd been misinformed and that 26 new episodes of the show will not be produced as he'd previously announced.

West added that there is still hope for a Futurama DVD project of some kind, as had been rumored before.

The science fiction oriented Futurama ran from 1999 to 2003 on Fox, and was created by Simpsons mastermind Matt Groening. West voiced the lead character Fry. Though it never matched the success of The Simpsons, the show continues to have a very loyal following. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any new word of further Futurama projects.
