from the looks of this yahoo news report it seems that issac hayes, who does the voice of 'the chef' in southpark, has taken offence to the episode that takes the piss out of scientology! :P
Isaac Hayes, who has voiced the highly sexed cafeteria employee on the irreverent series since 1997, issued a statement Monday indicating that he has requested to be released from his contract due to what he called the show's "inappropriate ridicule of religious communities." also... Though Hayes, a devout Scientologist, made no reference to specific episodes that he felt crossed the line, series creator Matt Stone had little doubt that Hayes' decision was triggered by the November 2005 episode "Trapped in the Closet," which satirized the religion's beliefs and practices and featured "cameos" by animated versions of Tom Cruise and John Travolta no more chocolate salty balls for the children :( |

Seems pretty stupid to excuse to quit really, I mean South Park has never been PC about anything least of all religion. Yet he stuck around for nearly 10 seasons.....

yeah southpark has paid out the catholic church and christianity waaaaay more than any other religion. The episode about priests having sex with kids, the episode about The Passion, the episode where santa gets shot down in Iraq and jesus kills a bunch iraqis and saves him are 3 i can think of off the top of my head. Plus it's also satirised all other religions with the super best friends thing.
ps. why didn't muslims riot when southpark showed an image of mohammad being a super hero who can conjure fire? |

all the southpark religious parodies are hilarious :D i totally agree that issac hayes is being hypocritical because it's christianity (catholics in particular) that cops the most abuse from southpark... the episode where they get the pope to authenticate a statue of the virgin mary bleeding as a miracle is so wrong... yet so funny! :D
they also fully put the boot in the mormon religion... & with just cause... it's a really wacko religion! :P |

showing mohammad apparently had positive effect from those muslims who watched it, most dont due to southparks vulgarness but those who didn't mind, you gotta remember its a big no no to show pictures or representations of mohammad and from memory southpark had a fatwa stuck on them long before any of this tripe and well before terrorist outcry.

isaac hayes asked to be released from his southpark contract for "inappropriate ridicule of religious communities." that's not an assumption... that's what the news report stated.

last i heard matt stone is jewish, and look at how bad jews get ripped on the south park. cartman at least once once an episode since it began for example, and you dont see him stopping. thats what i keep hearing about scientologists, they are totaly unable to take any joke about their "religion" along with another certain one which i wont name as this is about south park.

ps. why didn't muslims riot when southpark showed an image of mohammad being a super hero who can conjure fire? The same reason it took more than 3 months for the protests to start after the cartoons were published: It requires an Imman to tour the middle east proclaimming it offensive before it's picked up by your average embassy burning violence supporting fanatic in the street. |

Huh? The riots didn't start till that danish imam and his buddies went on a tour of the middle east. They had with them 3 additional cartoons. He did this in late December to early January.
It's got everything to do with him and his people. Here he is in an article about a week after he initially complained when the Danish paper first published the cartoons the month prior: ... Juste’s opinion was not shared by Arhus imam Raed Hlayhel, who gave an interview to the internet edition of Arabic satellite news channel al-Jazeera to protest the newspaper’s cartoons. After that him and some buddies took off to the middle east to promote the rage. Here's The Telegraph's article: The complained-of cartoons first appeared in October; they have provoked such fury only now. As reported in this newspaper yesterday, it turns out that a group of Danish imams circulated the images to brethren in Muslim countries. When they did so, they included in their package three other, much more offensive cartoons which had not appeared in Jyllands-Posten but were lumped together so that many thought they had SMH article from The Guardian: At this point a group of ultra-conservative Danish imams took matters into their own hands, setting off on a tour of Saudi Arabia and Egypt with a dossier containing the cartoons. Jyllands-Posten claims the imams took three other mysteriously unsourced drawings as well, showing Muhammad with the face of a pig; a dog sodomising a praying Muslim; and the prophet as a pedophile. "This was pure disinformation. We never published them," Mr Lund complained. But the campaign worked. HNN article: ... The Turkish ambassador even seconded the Imam's sentiments, berating the paper for "abusing Islam in the name of democracy, human rights and freedom of expression." The ambassadors wrote a letter to Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen notifying him that they were offended by the caricatures, demanding an official apology from the newspaper and asking for a special audience "to express their concern about what they perceive as anti-Muslim and anti-Islam campaigns in the press and certain far-right political circles." The Prime Minister turned down the request for a meeting pointing out that he (unlike Arab tyrants whose papers are full of anti-Semitic propaganda) has no control over the press. He promoted it. He was unhappy with the response from the paper and the danish government in the first place. He is the reason it became a Big Deal on the 'arab street' and he is an imam. last edited by natslovR at 20:22:24 14/Mar/06 |

Ok maybe i should've clarified and said that it isn't the imams telling the people to go burn embassies down. The way you put it you were generalising by saying the imams in general specifically instruct people to go blow s*** up when really it is the responsibility of particular group of people who'll find any excuse to go vandalising and cause trouble, ie: some lebos.

this danish imam clearly was inciting violence, he knew exactly what he was doing. you don't fly across the world, mislead a group of reactionary types and expect nothing to happen. |

If you want me to continue 'generalising' about imans and violence i will.
A quick google search of the Middle East Media Research Institutes work shows the following, and i just picked the first Friday Sermon's listed from a few different countries. Then looked for something inciting violence in the text. I assure you it wasn't hard to find. May 17, 2005. Palestianian Authority Sermon: The Jews will not enjoy a life of tranquility under our rule, because they are treacherous by nature, as they have been throughout history. The day will come when everything will be relived of the Jews - even the stones and trees which were harmed by them. Listen to the Prophet Muhammad, who tells you about the evil end that awaits Jews. The stones and trees will want the Muslims to finish off every Jew." July 21, 2005. Leading Saudi Imam in Mecca: "Oh, Allah, heal our sick, have mercy on our dead, release our prisoners, and save our Al-Aqsa Mosque. Oh Allah, liberate our Al-Aqsa Mosque from the defilement of the occupying and brutal Zionists. Oh Allah, make it high and mighty until Judgment Day. Oh Allah, punish the occupying Zionists and their supporters from among the corrupt infidels. Oh Allah, scatter and disperse them, and make an example of them for those who take heed." Feb 2, 2003. Iraqi TV Sermon: "Oh Ja'far, rise for Iraq... Oh Saddam, hit with your sharp sword and burn the armies of the infidels… Oh Allah, support the Mujahideen in Iraq and in Palestine… Oh Allah, support Saddam and the Iraqis… Oh Allah, make those who wish us, our religion, our nation, or our leader ill slaughter themselves by their own hands. Oh Allah, deal with the Jews, the Zionists, and the Americans, since they are incapable of countering you..." Nov 1, 2002 Qatar TV: Allah, remove their trap from us, weaken them, eradicate their countries and banish their regimes from your land. Do not let them reach any of your believers. Allah, deal with the aggressive and treacherous Jews. Allah, deal with the aggressive Americans. Allah, deal with the extremist pagans. Allah, deal with the oppressing Crusaders. Oh wait, they are all old, how about one of the first searches from Memri's database for "Friday Sermon" order by most recent date, that would give us Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi responding to the cartoon contraversy as broadcast on Qatar TV in February 2006 with pearlers like: "We must rage, and show our rage to the world." "Stand Up and Prove That You are Muslim, That You Protect This Religion With Zeal" "I say to them: Your silence over such crimes, which offend the Prophet of Islam and insult his great nation, is what begets violence, generates terrorism, and makes the terrorists say: Our governments are doing nothing, and we must avenge our Prophet ourselves. This is what creates terrorism and begets violence." If you think quoting from transcripts of the most important weekly sermons (Friday's sermon) presented at some of the most holly islamic sites in the world is generalising then i've got nothing more to add. |

Look, buttom line is, if you're telling me that my local imam (with an M and NOT an N)is inciting me to violence during my weekly friday prayers then how about i personally come pick you up and take you for a visit to the mosque i go to on friday, which is in Kurrby. Then the week after we can go to holland park, then rochdale then westend etc. That way you could hear for yourself what gets said. You wont ever hear an imam trying to provoke muslims to violence against innocent americans, jews or non muslims in general because killing the innocent is a sin. It's just too easy googling negatives about muslims these days, or coming across negatives from any media for that matter. I mean just look at this thread gone offtopic to ridicule muslims.
Friday Sermon starts at 1pm and goes to 1:30. I'm sure you could spare 30 minutes of your time since it took you about that much to type up that post anyway last edited by Booyah at 22:46:47 14/Mar/06 |

i don't think he's saying all imams are preaching death and retribution, but there certainly are a small but influential group of them in the middle east (and SE asia) who definitely have an axe to grind agains't the west, and have no problem telling their congregation (spologies if that's not the right term) about it.

I think Isaac Hayes would have been under a lot of pressure from other Scientologists to quit the show after that episode. Like most cults, controlling the lives of their members seems to be their specialty.

Scientology is a cult. Therefore, it deserves to be made fun of.
Honestly, the guy who made it writes cheesy B-grade Sci-Fi novels. If muslims continue to over-react everytime someone draws a silly little picture almost justifies their hypocritical religion being classed as a cult too. ... I'm a member of the Jedi faith by the way. P.S Next census the Jedi will pwn and bring justice to the force. |

I find it a bit rich that after what, 10 seasons of southpark making fun of other people, he now wants to quit because they picked on something he likes. I predict an episode of Southpark making fun of him and/or hypocrits in general |

I heard on Triple J that Tom Cruise got involved somehow but then missed the end of the story... I googled and the first thing that came up was this:
famous Scientologis whatck job Tom Cruise has threatened to not promote Mission Impossible 3 if Comedy Central plays the offending episode, which makes fun of both R. Kelly's awful operetta and Scientologists. No idea how reliable that is. Taken from here: http://unrealitycheck.com/index2.htm |

the other theory is of course that Hayes didn't want to resign, but was in fact threatened by the church with disciplinary action, like being declared a suppressive person

whether people from the 'church' of scientology actively or passively effected hayes's decision to end his contract with southpark... in the end the decision was his & that makes him a hypocrit. the fact that it is scientology also either makes him a fool or a tax cheat. (because either you beleive & that makes you a fool... or you are just using this fake church as a tax dodge.)
'threatened with disiplinary action' ... ie: told you won't get your money back, sucker! ... hahah. i dont see what your point is billy... the news report says he quit due to innapropriate ricicule of religious groups. hayes himself previously stated that one of the reasons why he liked southpark was that nothing was holy to them & they attacked everyone equally. then after the 2nd scientology bashing episode he quits. other famous scientologists try to apply pressure to networks to not show the episode. hayes is a scientologist. with all the above information sure it's still an assumption that hayes quit because he is a hypocritical dog... a good assumption! that seems very likely to be correct. if you have another idea why he quit... what is it? last edited by demon at 11:42:37 20/Mar/06 |

don't mean to drag up an oldish thread but I found this on wiki while browsing around:
Some have speculated that the statement was made in Hayes's name, but not by Hayes himself, as he suffered a stroke in January and has not been seen in public since. There have been no public comments from Hayes as to his stance. |

It was Hayes decision to not quit BEFORE the episode was made. He acted in the episode that pays out Scientology, therefore he is not a hypocrit. Had he acted in episodes that paid out other religions but then refused to be in the Scientology one, then he would be a hypocrit. |

He acted in the episode that pays out Scientology, therefore he is not a hypocrit. Had he acted in episodes that paid out other religions but then refused to be in the Scientology one, then he would be a hypocrit. chef wasn't in the scientology episode. |

Having said that though demon, we don't really know if it was chef's or the writer's decision to leave him out.

sure. in fact i wouldn't mind betting that it was the writers decision because as far as the story goes in s09e12 there is really no part for the chef character to play.

Isaac Hayes did not quit "South Park." My sources say that someone quit it for him. who knows what to believe? |

... there is really no part for the chef character to play.It was easy to write chef in. He could have told the boys they shouldn't say "Tom cruise won't come out of the closet" as someone may construe that as suggesting Tom Cruise was a raving fudge packing gaybar who loves sucking on chocolate salty balls... |

S10E01 aired today in the US and it's all about Chef, who goes away to join the Super Adventure Club and comes back a child molester. The boys state that we shouldn't all hate chef for what the nasty things he has said recently, we should hate the Super Adventure Club for brainwashing him.
It appears to use only old lines Chef said previously, rather than any new audio. |

Boy did they just up the ante big time.
"All over the middle east muslims are burning american flags and family guy posters" ... "now put yourself in the shoes of a muslim. It's friday night but you can't have sex and you can't jack off there's sand in your eyes and probably in the crack of your ass and then some cartoon comes along from a country where people probably are getting laid and mocks your prophet.. i'd be pretty pissed off too" |

hahaha. it's part 1 of a double, and they challenge comedy central to air next week's episode which is the cartoon of mohammed. "Will television executives fight for free speech or will commedy central puss out ?"
Pretty funny since they've already done it in a previous episode. |

Hehe I also read the scientology article on wikipedia. Says the scientologists tried to pressure google into removing sites from the results that reflected badly on scientology. Hahahahahhaaha.

spot on demon? they only covered 2 aspects of the humour, maybe 3 if you count a sub-humour level like referring to peter's random and often gross jobs
family guy, just like south park, has a heap of indepth humour that most wouldn't even begin to understand |

Yes, I'm sure it takes a genius to understand it. If only Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton and Sigmund Freud were here to enlighten us on the glorious secrets of the family guy. ffs... |

That first ep was great. I thought they were being nice to Chef's character but by the end they dragged his name thru the mud. LOL |
