ahah that's pretty much right, thought I'd feel comfortable stretching it to 5 years. I gave up when someone said the word "stereotypical" because it was obvious where it was going from there.

Takes me back to 5 years ago or so. Who was the guy who won the Ferrari in a comp once? I cant remember his name but I'm pretty sure it was before fatality was anyone known.

Well done Masta B. I found an old QGL thread about him here:
http://qgl.ausforums.com/?agn=thread&id=58386

Its from 2001 but he was playing well before that. So much for Fatality being a 1st.

Yes, that's true. 60 minutes seemed to be making out that pro gaming is new. We all know its not.

Thresh.

There was a MTV special about fatal1ty which he came off pretty much clueless, wrong, gravitating his whole life around quake(3). bit close to the bone really :| At 20 it's ok but I suppose he's making 100K us a year out of it so that's a sweet deal.

Whether he is actually da best well I think Thresh would cane him considering Thresh was pretty much god in DooM circles even before quake and his notorious ferrari win at qcon. Whoever he played (integral?) got pretty much slaughtered, but I would have loved to have seen a noskill (rip) vs thresh match. (his doom recordings are still shiver-worthy)

Thats because your not pro gamer material. I do 2000 cs bots a day, finger exsercises and alot of eye stimulation. You have to be in it to win it.

Thresh was s*** at quake - he was just ahead of his time.

He did cain that UK Quake2 champ in that special challenge match tho. That was an absolute drubbing.

He did the smart thing and got out of playing games and using his "celebrity" at the time to start website companies. He owns www.firingsquad.com and/or www.gamers.com among other things i think?

Either way, I'm sure he's making a s***load more than fatal1ty is.

Oh yeah I should add that Thresh stopped playing/competing right when the Euro players started getting real good. People were begging him, offering free trips, money etc etc to go to Europe to play, but he knew he'd get f***ing worked so he never did.

He retired with practically a no-loss competition record which is how he kept his rep intact...tho lost the respect of everyone in the Quake scene at the time.

You can also stream it off his site. His most winnings have basically come over the last year though, $150,000 from the tour stop grand final, not to mention the handful of tournaments prior to it.
Still a pretty good feat, 300K from winnings alone.

The same sort of people who take the same, and more wierd 'trinkets' to WPT round, where they win millions of dollarz.

What, that he did it? or that it takes that long to get to #1?

WoW PvP rank was the most retarded system ever.
It was based on how long you spent in BG, not how good you were.

it would be cool to see a couple of the major sponsors endorse tournaments in australia a bit more, cos there isn't much big cash going round. I know that me and a few other guys in my battlefield clan, are the he top paid online players in australia winning only about $2.5k each from bfv and bf2. it aint a lot when u think about it tho.

ya gotta go overseas and in the big international things to make a lot.

They play starcraft, and mmorpgs (mostly their own, though theres always plenty of wow players just about everywhere), I think south korea is probably online game king of the world, with china coming in second (not sure which country has more farmers).
Other game types seem miniscule in comparison to these two, but obviously theres plenty of cs players etc there too.
Thats just what from what I've observed, if theres some hard stat data I'd like to read through it too. No idea what console gaming is like in these places, online or otherwise...
