I dropped my video card off on 29/11/05 [It was artifacting - never been OC'd, Fan was still working.], I checked up on it on Monday and the time frame was still "unknown".
I'm wanting to know, is it possible to get a card out of GD's stock on the shelf?

I'm basically fed up with chasing it and wasting my time and money doing so, I'm prepared to go down there this afternoon and yell in the managers ear from an inch away until his ear bleeds or he gives me one.

I haven't had a trouble in the past, but this is the last dealing I will have with these people after I get my card back.

[edit]
They claimed they have been "chasing/hounding" the manufacturer about it, but this doesn't seem to be yielding results.
Basically, I think it's time the store gave results by giving me a new card, and chasing the store up for a replacement for their stock.
What else did I pay a store's markup for if not service. I dont' seem to be getting much of that nor convenience since I have to chase up manufacturers myself.

Loki first problem, you used GD, no sympathy.

Also when I have RMA's i generally deal with hte manufacter directly.

Had a seagate drive die on the 15th of december, sent to singapore on he 20th of December (yes before christmas) and new one arrived the 15th of January.

Yeah I just got a Seagate HDD back off GD from RMA, it actually didn't take -too- long.
I left it sitting at the store for a few weeks waiting for my vid card so I could pick them both up together and save $$ in fuel.

Either way, i'm about to head down there and point out my case nicely.
If I don't get anywhere heads are going to roll until I get what I want.

What else would I take? A magic f***ing carpet on wheels? Or walk in the rain?

My v8 is my daily and only car.
Try and troll elsewhere.

Not trying to defend GD, but there's a strong possibility the problem lies with the distro or the manufacturer themselves.

I always recommend dealing directly with the manufacturer when possible to avoid time delays and ferrying of information between the levels.

Dont yell/intimidate - it will do nothing. Approach the subject courtesly and start off with "Well, I can't believe the manufacturers are this bad.. you guys must get really upset with how long it takes to retrieve items and the amount of customers complaining about it".

Your more likely to get a replacement card by being nice instead of being abusive.

No sorry its not loki. GD stated that comin up to xmas and over the xmas period there might be delays in the Ra's. It is always quicker after the first week to send directly back to manufacturer cuts out the middle man

I no longer do business with GD after their appalling service regarding RA'd gear several years ago.

The small savings you make are just not worth the pain.

Man i'm an idiot. Just bought a system off gamedude - having serious problems with it and I'm being royally f***ed by their service department. Maybe I should've listened when everyone I talked to said GD are terrible :(

Well I got one, I was polite but firm and basically, the distrib had one there waiting (after they lied their ass off saying they had none).
I have in my hands a new card... 12 weeks later.

I asked to speak to manager about it and he said manager was on the phone to their supplier.. so I asked to speak to the supplier, they wouldn't let me.
So I asked for a phone number to call them myself, they wouldn't let me, and said they had no australian number anyway...
So I said "basically, you're leaving me here with no options and 1/4 of a year without a card, and if you're going to give me a credit for another product [they offered a credit], I'd rather just have the cash back and take my business elsewhere"

He goes away, comes back with an australian supplier address and says "if you want to go pick one up, they have one" I said "ok sure, as long as it's not in hong kong" (cause he said there were no aus supplier numbers!)
Other people waiting + dude behind counter have a chuckle since he just got busted lying, he gives me the address which was around the bloody corner... I go there, and 5 minutes later I have a new card.

It got sorted, but it seems like it could have been sorted out without my internvention alot sooner.

[edit] Loki posting @ mongie's haus.

Oh and TicMan - you are right entirely, I wouldn't yell anyway, I'm all talk and too soft to yell at the poor dude behind the counter for that :P
I just pushed my point that 12 weeks was a bit unacceptable, did it in as polite (but obviously annoyed) manner as I possibly could.
I thanked the guy behind the counter for helping me get it sorted out and I don't believe I was ever rude to him.

I buy things from GD that I don't care break as the replacements would be cheaper, ie: printers, memory sticks, etc. But buying anything other than that and I go somewhere with a reliable service department that don't dick you around.

Everyone said don't go there and you did? What's the story with that?

video cards are f***s to get replaced ... no matter what shop/warehouse you deal with they all take their sweet f***ing time in sending out a replacement so its not just GD

I showed them kat.zip, yes.

They then happily handed over a new video card which I am currently using to inform you of this afternoons events.

why dont you just buy another one.. when/if you get your old one back, sell it?

if your wasting time / money on phone calls, petrol, stress ect could be worth writing off a few bucks.

From what I understand 8 weeks is the consumes watchdog of a reasonable amount of time. Usually vid card manufacturers draw a very fine line to this deadline. Now either your card is just around the corner or I would take it to consumer affairs. Whilst it is possible that it took up to 4 weeks between GD and manufacturer I would assume the problem lies with those tiawanese f***s that are probably sitting there going "haw haw dumb little rich boi hab no video card haw haw"

Funny, I thought the ACCCs 'reasonable amount of time' was 14 days.
I start going after a refund at that point.
