Hey guys,

I've had some mixed messages from friends and Optus as to this, so I'd like to know if anybody's had an experience with it.

Basically last night my phone was stolen. I don't care too much about the phone, but the contacts (stored on the sim card) are really important to me (eg friends from school 8 years ago). Does anybody know if it's possible to get the contacts restored when I get sent a new sim?

btw it was a Nokia 6600 in case anybody sees one getting passed around.

No, they are stored on the sim, not in magical phone network land.

cant do it dude.

optus offer a system to store your contacts online, but i back mine up on my computer in the case the phone gets stolen. basically if its only on your simcard, unless they give it back, its gone :(

try searching for specific phone software? I got a USB cable with mine and can back stuff up nicely.

hahaha, a similar thing like that happened to a friend of mine recently. he just went on to msn and changed his name to "fell in the pool, my phone is dead - what's ur number?".

No you can't get them back.

Check your old phone bills to get the numbers.

I didn't know sim cards died when submerged in water with a turned on mobile.
Greyden fell in the ocean and his sim worked fine in a new phone *shrugs* could have just been lucky, but sims don't seem to be full of too many parts that would "fry" from water bridging currents across where they shouldn't...
Or maybe phones just die from hitting the water and killing the power to the phone before that can happen *Shrugs*.

I went swimming in the ocean with my remote for my car many many years ago while at Kirra beach... I had to steal my own car in the car parking lot (remote obviously no longer worked), when I got back in bris - Rubba soaked it in tap water for a few minutes, then dried it with a hair dryer and it worked fine, still works to this day.
