ok, i have to dial into work to fix things
is there anyway i can keep my internet working while im dialed into work?

basically the dialup connection takes over the internet, so while im dialed into work, i cant use msn or webbrowse, which i would like to be able to do

any ideas?

for work, i just need putty to connect

Raise a help desk call! :)

What's happening is the work connection is setting itself up as the default route, so all your internet traffic is going to work where gets blocked.

You need to delete the work default route the modem adds (destination 0.0.0.0), while keeping your adsl's default route and add explicit route rules for work's subnets.

Whats your email address - I can give you a batch script to help ya out.

rather than having to alter your route table manually, you should just be able to go into the tcp/ip properties for your dial-up connection, click advanced and uncheck the box that says 'use default gateway on remote network' which should stop the route table being changed at all when you dial in

tell them to give up on dinosaur tech and get a VPN.
using a vpn wouldn't necessarily change this issue anyway

hey blahnana, what did you mean when you said "that's an understatement"?

Yeah Jim's right.. sorta.. I think you may need to add some routes for our subnets though. I had to.

get a dedicated fibre optic into your work's server. Failing that you can do what noob Jim said.

Just use the dialup at work for the internets. hahaha.

As if you'd bother, you only live 10mins away, just go in, its much less painful
