Is anyone else going? I am hanging out for Datarock but who could resist the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown?!? |

Yeah I'll be there, but probably won't get there till Datarock. Get a few drinks in to me before I head down to save some cashola.
Should be a good day if it doesn't rain! |

Last year's goodvibes was f***ing amazing. incredible lineup and just all-round kickass day. i'm not going this year though, the lineup was a pretty big let down for me. James Brown would have been coolazz, but it just wasnt enough for me. Saving my pennies for two tribes instead.
riverstage is an awesome venue, but the weather looks shat. |

Agreed - last year's lineup was much more impressive. Although I am hopeful that this year the same thing will happen and I will discover some new groups that I previously haven't known - since last year's GV, I'm a big fan of Lyrics Born and Amp Fiddler...
I am hoping the rain will hold out - it will suck if it's wet all day! |

Was a pretty good night overall. James was awesome, but went on 45 mins late. I was pretty pissed off, but when he came out in his sparkly purple suit, all was forgiven.
Cuban Brothers were funny as all hell. Datarock, Z Trip, The Nextmen, Jean Grae + Talib Kweli all kicked arse too. Sean Ryder looked tired and smacked out, very lazt performance. He performed Dare, but it was so limp and half-arsed we got the hell out of there. I met Jean Grae just before James Brown, so that was kinda cool. Had a chance to meet Lady Kier (the chick who sang Groove is in the Heart with Dee-Lite) but I froze up when she walked past. Was kicking myself all night afterwards. Anyways, good night overall. It is one of the few consistently good festivals imo. |

I just went to the 'afterparty' at the moonbar. Freq Nasty was the surprise dj, droppin' some thick beats.

Highlights of the day for me were:
Z-Trip's set with freestyle champion Supernatural...Z-Trip played some crowd favourites, while Supernat rocked some of the smoothest freestyle rhymes ever. His rep is well earned as one of the world's best freestylers, and he demostrated his skills by having the audience yell out words which he then worked into his ryhme. He also had people in the front row pull s*** outta their pockets and he did a verse about each object. $kill$ The Nextmen were good too. They played back to back and got the crowd rockin. They even beat Z-Trip to the punch by mixing Back in Black, which got a live reaction, and a somewhat lesser one when Z-Trip played it two sets later. Talib Kweli was pretty awesome; the amatuer breakers he got up stage at the end were not. Still they ahd a go and everyone had fun. Lady Kier was...how can I best describe it...FAT. Unfortunately not p-h phat, but actually rotund. Flanked by two very ghey looking black men in nowhere to hide tights and silver space costumes, she belted out a couple of gay anthem type trax before getting behind the decks. We watched for about 1/2 a song and then had a bit of a look later, but yeah, not too inspiring from what I saw. I am sure if I was gay I would have loved it. Datarock were s***, as you'd expect from their radio airplay, but I was too tired and emotional to move, so had to endure a bit of their boring set. The Cuban Brothers were a surprise crowd favourite, and their show was definately one of the better acts. And yeh, JB came on late, as usual did a fairly lacklustre extended intro and all up played a very short set. I have seen him once before, and he was good, but not exceptional. I was probably a bit over it by then, but still a very enjoyable show. PS Missed Freq Nasty...bit bummed about that, but seeing Supernat was worth it. last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 19:36:56 12/Feb/06 last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 19:37:01 12/Feb/06 |

What an awesome day. Luckily the rain held out and it wasn't too scorchingly hot. Datarock were a bit of a disappointment. There first few songs fizzled and by the time they were warming off it was time for them to get off stage. Their tracksuits were hot though. Lady Kier was hilarious!! I really enjoyed her set even though she is a bit of a fatty now and looks nothing like her old "Dee-lite" self any more. She worked the crowd really well and even though she sold out a bit by playing some cheesy tunes I still though she was great. Unfortunately I missed most of the Cuban Brothers' set because my friend wanted to see Sean Ryder, but what a big fat waste of time he was. He sat at the front while someone else worked the decks occasionally grunting something unintelligable into the mic and looking completely off his tits. What rehab?! Cuban Brothers were fantastic and I wished I had seen their whole performance. James Brown was great and even though his band and back-up did all the work, at 73 years old it was pretty impressive to see him up there all sparkling in his blue suit and whatnot. All in all it was an awesome day and you suckers who didn't go missed out ;) |

Datarock were s***, as you'd expect from their radio airplay What is that supposed to mean? Like, im not arguing the fact that they were s*** or not as I wasn't there, but I thought their songs were awesome on radio, and were played a fair bit. |

Agreed Casa - I love their music when I've heard it on the radio but they struggled to be as awesome live...

Datarock were s***, as you'd expect from their radio airplay Well IMHO they got flogged on radio simply because they were one of Triple J's band of the moment flash in the pan NME darling bands and their big single, with it's horribly contrived chorus, something about "she's a genus and a venus", was bollocks. Rhyming words for the sake of it. Some chintzy Grease ripoff piece of crap. The Swedes should stick to making pRon. |
