Japanese publication Famitsu has compiled the results of a survey asking 47 developers, 113 retailers, and 370 consumers for their expectations about consoles in 2006. It asked respondants questions including which next-gen console they expect to be most pleased with in 2006, which current- or next-gen console will be the top seller in 2006, what price point is expected for PS3, and what price point is expected for Revolution.

Rarely does a console get released with good games.
It takes time for the programmers to find their niche working with the new hardware etc. I can't remember there being a lot of quality games released with a new console for a long time. SNES had four quality titles released when it hit the shelves, but that's all it had, 4 titles. A Quality game is like a good woman: You hardly ever find good one, and once you do, you get sick of it in a few weeks, a month tops. (WOW players excluded.) Games are better then women however, because they never complain if you suck at playing with them. :P |

Where does it say anywhere that Rev is going to be the biggest? Looks like DS/PS3 to me. Also presumably it was a Japan-only survey?
Anyway for the few Nintendo fanboys on here there's an fairly interesting interview on gamespot with the head Nintendo America guy about 2006 Rev/DS happenings. I found it amusing that the Gamecube managed to outsell the Xbox360 in December 2005. Who buys a NEW cube these days? last edited by evinco at 01:44:32 07/Feb/06 |

cause now the gamecube is cheap as and has a decent selection of games, unlike when it came out
good games of course being subjective - my only real requirement for a new Nintendo console is Mario Kart - bonus if it has Smash Bros, Mario Tennis, et cetera. couldn't particularly give a crap about FPS or similar titles. frankly as long as Luigi's Mansion is not the major launch title again I'll be impressed |

My mistake, don't know what I read first time around. It's still going to kick some ass.
And, yes, this was a Japan only survey. I don't know what the sales are in Australia atm, but on the subway in Japan I see many ppl with a NintendoDS, but rarely do I see people with a PSP. I think the PSP is much better, but I am bias because I own one. |

Sure there's a much better selection of games now, but I'd expect cubes to be flying out the door second hand as all the kiddies who want the latest gadgets (i.e. X360) scrape every penny together.
I'd say MK will be a given. Miyamoto has also confirmed a decent Mario game (by that I mean something more tangible than Sunshine). But Mario Tennis will certainly be the selling point for me - can't get enough of the first three versions and the Rev controller is sure to make things interesting. |

Can't wait to try an FPS on the rev. From what I read, it's like nothing else.
I read some reports a month or two back that the system itself was complete, but the titles were still under construction. Could this mean the rev will have a really large kick-ass launch range? |

I'm looking forward to trying the new controller out. Unfortunately, years of using traditional controllers limits my imagination and I can't imagine how this will make fps so revolutionary.
Having said this, from what I read, it sounds like people have been already sold on the new design. Can't wait to try it out! http://www.nintendo.com/revolution for a pic of the one-handed controller. |

God, I hope not! I just like the idea of a new controller, even if I can't imagine how it can possibly be better. I mean, two hands are better than one, right??

it's well known that there was a serious shortage of 360s at launch, hence the Gamecube's outselling them
also, PS3 with it's cell processor is gonna be a bitch to develop for, a lot of the 3rd party developers are gonna have headaches working with it at first, whereas the 360 has the benefit of easy ports to and from the PC, Carmack himself said in a recent interview that ID software is now developing for the 360 first, and then getting it working on PC. And as for the revolution, apart from the new controller, who knows what they've got going on performance wise |

I'm hoping the Revolution would be good..but we've seen no games! We've seen less games than the Playstation fanboys have seen about the PS3.
SHOW ME THE GAMES! |

And as for the revolution, apart from the new controller, who knows what they've got going on performance wise I remember hearing the same thing about the PS2. It really didn't make much of a difference. If a company has x more million users to sell to, they'll spend the extra time coding to get the extra customers and dollars. I think the Revolution will pretty much follow in the footsteps of the gamecube - a good secondary console. Most people will pick up a 360 or PS3 when they come out and in a couple of years they'll get a Revolution for dirt cheap. In conclusion, Reggie is sex. |

From what I read, the mighty cell processor is a s***e to code for. Each cell has to be manaully assigned different tasks, unlike the Xbox360, which will severely limit the budget titles from looking anywhere near the quality of the AAA titles, simply because it'll take more time, and more money to code for.
<3 for reggie too! |
