Okay, after a whole month I am finally unshapped.... YIIPPEEEEEEE
Question - The one page that took the longest to load, or sometimes never, was QGL. I was shaped to 64k and I am curious as to why QGL takes so long to load (even more than ebay) or as said above, sometimes I would get the top inch bit and then the list of threads just wouldn't load. |

yeah, it seems strange to me as well trog because it doesn't really look like a page which should take long to load but I constantly had problems with QGL. Thought there may be some secret thing :) You know the spyware in the background |

qgl is always the quickest loading for me when I'm capped, perhaps its a sign?

Kat, youre comparing something that runs on Sun hardware and database software they more than likely had to pay for (thats eBay in case you were wondering), QGL isnt exactly the most optimised of threaded forums out there. Since I dont see a little 'page rendered in x seconds' anywhere around here, its not so outrageous to assume that QGL gets served up from a PII with less ram than I use in a single instance of Firefox.

Use Firefox instead of IE. IE always took ages to load QGL for me.

it'd be related to the ads i think.. well it was for me anyway, my internode connection had a great deal of troble fetching the great many images pertaining to the ad rotation (nfi why, its not like its alot of images or anything) so instead i just blocked the images from loading but kept the 'ad' box.. that way qgl still gets their money and i dont have to look at ads..

trillion - maybe comparing qgl and ebay is bad but I can assure you other forums loaded a lot quicker and they aren't on a sun server

Use Firefox instead of IE. IE always took ages to load QGL for me. Same for me, when I was an IE user QGL would take forever (I'm also on Internode) but since I saw the light and switched to Firefox it's all been good! |

I have a theory.
I reckon your ISP has been monitoring your internet use and know how many useless threads you start. So they have started to throttle pages (QGL) to more like 5kbit to prevent other peoples hardache. last edited by Dodgymon at 22:40:51 27/Jan/06 |
