you do realise that 99.9999999999999999999999999% of viruses you get 'from' people dont actually mean their computer is infected at all?
Most cases a virus will infect somebodys machine (like yours) and steal all the addresses out of the address book and then send more viruses off from those addresses but from your pc. |

Yeh I had a friend tell me the same thing once, in a "OHHH I'M SO SMART I GET TO INFORM YOU ABOUT YOUR VIRUS" type manner, then I educated him and he still didn't believe me..

There are usually 2 possibilities with apparent email spam from friends:
1. Friend A's machine is compromised by a virus/worm and is sending out spam from Friend A's own email address. 2. Friend B has Friend A's email address in his/her address-book. Friend B's machine gets compromised and sends out spam to everyone pretending to be from Friend A. People mistakenly think Friend A is sending out the spam. I usually find the latter to be the most common case. Your mileage may vary. |

well I did a thorough scan overnight and I've got nothing, so it must be coming from someone who has my email in their address book

If you check the headers of the email, you can get their IP address, but that probably won't be much help.

um.. outlook express can spoof an email address. ie, send from email... that was my point. meaning it's not really from his gmail account. |
