we have two. so if aramaki falls over (not often, its got a nearly a one year uptime) then yarrina holds on to it for a while

another option is to put something in front of your mail server, that is the final MX but actually passes all mail on inside. this is good for high load systems. spam filtering and virus detection loads up the external mail system, but then all mail is then passed on and simply delivered by the real mail server. the external server is then freed from also having to worry about pop etc. you can also do some fancy config on the external machine and redirect mail to differnt machines based on usernames or something. anything really, you can just make some sort of look up table if you wanted. thank heavens for exim+mysql/pgsql

haha sorry i guess i shouldnt be so quick to accuse people of poor linux skills. its just so hard to meet really savy linux users these days, i just assume most people know nothing ... or just enough to be trouble ;P

We don't work for a hosting company - we should have a secondary MX but our mail is generally reliable enough to mean that setting up a secondary MX is more hassle than its worth.

im under the impression (based on your personal website) that you work(ed) for a webhosting company in a technical position. its in your bio anyway. well was as trog.qgl.org is now down. so if thats not the case then i apologise

its unfortunate that such an obvious configuration ommision has been made (or chosen), and more unfortunate that ausgamers representatives felt to remove intelligent posts whilst leaving hatefull and homophobic commentary. once again i'm forced to draw parrallels to pol pot and his attrocities in cambodia.

i hope that in the future...
a) more care and time will be taken to configure the ausgamers services
b) ausgamers representatives will work more towards encouraging fruitfull forum usage
c) persons whos only input in forums is to insult and belittle will be removed
d) intelligent (or 'nerdy' as they were described) posts will be encouraged and expounded upon.
