Topic: A CB radio just saved my life...

Coming back from my gf's fathers place up in redcliffe, i was playing around with a CB radio that she recently won, listening to the road channel (8) and buggerising around.

Getting a load of static i decided to scan the channels and see what else i could pick up. the CB locks on a new channel and i hear a chicks voice say "get out of the left hand lane, theres a car parked in the left hand lane! " .. i thought "f*** - whos the poor f*** ?" ..

at the same time as i was thinking that, we went around a bend in the road and the girlfriend pointed and said "get the f*** out of the left hand lane", i look where shes pointing and 300m in front of me theres this f***ing holden parked in the middle of the lane with NO lights on and was just sitting there. I made a quick lane change and thanked god i didn't hit a stationary car at 105km/h. I wouldn't be here tonight if i hit that car.

Turns out that a couple of 4wd were on ch 16 chatting on the way down to the gold coast. Usually CB is full of a******s f***ing around, but tonight, by pure luck, it saved both of our lives.

Cliffs: person on radio told me about a car that i was about to crash into on the M1.

turned out to be an old lady in the car.

I broadcast a warning to channel 8 but didn't to channel 9, i probabily should have made a call on ch9 in hindsight.

If anyone hit her it would have caused a pileup and will make the news

the stupid bitch was just sitting there.

I mean for christs sake if your engine dies you drive your car off the highway, you dont just STOP in tghe middle of the lane with NO lights at dusk.

i swear to god we are gona hear about this in the news.

She probably panicked like a deer in the headlights when it happened.
Everyone just passing by has left the poor old bat to die and probably kill a few other people as well.

Somebody could have helped her out but it doesn't seem to happen these days.

wait, sop by your accounts, before you realised what was happening from the CB related to you, your gf pointed it out and you changed lanes...

So like, if you didn't have the CB you still would have seen the car 300m up in front (or not playing with the cb would have been able to realise you were closing in on it fast)...

there were no lights, it was getting dark, and the only reason my gf saw it was cause she heard the cb radio and then realised the car was in front of us.

Maybe you should have been watching the road instead of f***ing around with the cb

old ladies are the new scantily-clad-leggie-blonde. You get out to help them and their boyfriends are hiding in the bushes. you are f***ed, and not in a good way like with the scantily-clad-leggie-blonde.

if you were going 100km/h you would have survived, every K over is a killer remember.

just talked to rach and it seems my 300m estimate was way off.

I was about 4 seconds away from hitting her - at 100km/h thats only 40 meters away from the hazard. At that speed, hitting a stationary target would have cost me my life.

That happened to me once southbound on the southeast freeway just outside the Greenslopes Bus station.

Coming home from basketball one sunday night this stupid asian chick was stopped in the left hand lane with no hazards on or anything. I hammered the breaks stopped about 15m short of her and about 5 cars did the same behind me..

She just walks up and asks me to call RACQ for her (she about 50m from the emergency call box and everything but gets me to use my mobile...)

I tell her to put on her hazard lights and she just looks at me stupidly. Then I called racq, gave a description of her car, make/model/rego then started describing the location of the car, at this point the stupid bird starts telling me her rego number, even though she was standing next to me when I gave it to the racq phone operator about 45 seconds prior to her telling it to me.

She was the poster child for taking warning labels of power tools and hoping natural selection runs its course.

Lowgoz - if you were 4 seconds away from hitting the car when doing 100kmh, you'd be in actual fact, 111.08 meters away.

quoted for truth.

they are either nutcase street racers in skylines, s13's, supra's (not very many)

or s*** c***s that don't even do the speed limit, and have to practically stop to turn a corner.

Your such a drama queen. You probably had plenty room to break and you should also be paying attention on the road and not on your boyfriend. Imo.

I was driving home from visiting my mothers in sandgate, when some f*** who couldnt stay straight in the left lane because he was playing with his cb or something, so i went over to the third lane to overtake when suddenly he swerved into the lane i was in two seconds previously

Speaking of stereotypes, I saw a great one the other day when driving onto the Eastern freeway:

An asian female, driving a 4WD Volvo.

The only thing that I can think of that might have made it worse was it also being a Taxi.

Oh noes no hazard lights were on.

I don't even have hazard lights =)
(no i'm not kidding).
I should probably get my old man to wire something up to a little switch so i have hazards, cause it's dangerous when braking down and people can't drive and see YOU ARENT MOVING.

Like on outbound ipswich rd out front the gabba (p.s. orbs, there's nowhere to push the car there at the set of lights going uphill).

Didn't I just agree with you saying that no hazards was dangerous and the fact that my car doesn't have them is dangerous when breaking down?

O WAIT I ALREADY DID.
