Hi there

I just wondering if you guys could help. I am looking to buy a wireless digital media player thingy (not to sure exactly what its called) like one of these http://www.netgear.com/products/details/MP115.php

Does anyone know what to search for on the net, because i wanna see if anyone else makes these. I am looking for one that has component out and optical out.

Thanks

I took one home from work to play with.

MS Media Centre > MythTV > Geexbox > XBox > Pinnacle showcentre.

they do the job, but for the money you could prolly buy a 2nd hand pre-chipped XBox

cant go past xbox media center.
plays every file out there,
full on trouble free network browsing,-plays full dvd rips(4.7-8gig) over the network so easy and free it puts a smile on ya face.
quick no nonsense vids
quick and easy full function player with easy to use controler or use the remote.
can chuck on a 'ethernet to wireless converter' to hook it up to a wireless network.

however as with any wireless device it wont handle streaming a dvdrip over the wireless network. will do 700mb~ divx/xvid encodes easy tho.

I stream divx and have streamed a dvd over wireless before. It will handle it fine.

a quick google came up with this:

http://computing.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/cp_100342723_filter_device_type_wireless_media_centre.html

pick the manufacturer you want/like and shop from there I guess.

Hello
Merry Xmas guys

Ok I have just bought the z500 www.z500series.com. It is made by the aussie Zensonic guys and it has finally come out for Xmas....
Wireless (54Mb) or wired (100Mb), USB, Windows SMB sharing, or uPnP media servers. ie share the many ipod librarys you may have floating around on the network. Only WEP, WPA is coming in a firmware update. $500-

Plays everything I throw at it. Can handle apparently up to 1080i uncompressed transport streams (although obviously not on a wireless link!)
I have a mutant 2GB divx of Baraka which not even my PC can play and it's humming along nicely.

GUI is awesome, software/firmware needs some work but I believe this is being addressed over the next week.

Man that looks like a awesome unit.
Built in wireless and all. :o

Any retailers in Brisbane stock these?

$500 seems a bit steep when you could grab one of these and whack in a hard drive. I know personally I'd rather have a media box with a hard drive than one which streams over the network. If you really want wireless you could prolly hook a bridge up to it and still come in under $500.

But it's a DVD player that has HDMI support :(
Plus all the other cool stuff.

Try Strathfield

I wanted an appliance that can be used by the non-techies in this house. This has the support and hardware functionality to last for a number of years - so yes it is expensive but I think worth it.
it works well because we have stuff all over the network. And the neighbor sits on it as well.
