my boss has a sony ns-11 2gb portable mp3 player that someone got him when they were over in china, the thing is when he first had it he had like 600mb of songs on it, when he deleted all the songs off of it he deleted everything instead of jsut the mp3 files, now when he plugs it in it only shows the capacity being 119mb. i think he must of deleted some important files

any thoughts on what files he may have deleted? and ideas on how i would fix it?

format it...
it shouldn't have any user-accessable important files on it...

if that doesn't work, ring Sony and play dumb.

1. Replace User
2. Press the Any Key

If it is anything like the ipod you can just use an application to either update it or reset it back to factory settings.

if its compact flash memory, make sure you format it as a FAT drive

it could theoretically be broken... I've seen that sort of thing on USB flash drives before... but normally a format will fix it.
