whats a decent spyware removal program, having a look around there are s***loads of products out there but i dont want to get caught with something that doesnt really do anything.
also im too the understanding that sometimes more then one program is the best way to go if so what would you recommend. |

adaware, spybot search & destroy and spyware blaster here. Spyware blaster is more of a "block the bad men with tinfoil hats" for IE/FireFox than spyware removal but I think it stops cookies from certain places being stored and what not.

Also sometimes if all else fails go to start -> run and type msconfig. (only on xp) Its pretty handy and it tells you what apps is being loaded at startup and also in the services tab you can hide microsoft services and see what other s*** needs to be turned off. |

I use adaware 6, I thought spybot ceased getting support/updates which basically makes it useless...
Also once a blue moon I go through my task manager and google any file thats running that I don't know what it is exactly. Just type the filename like susfile.exe into google and there is a bunch of dedicated sites that tell you what running processes actually are. I found that to be pretty effective to find any nasties running in the background that adaware may not class as spyware. |

If you have a legit copy of XP use Windows AntiSpyware - free d/l from microsoft.com but the one spook said is probably better.
I usually just format~ |

I use Microsoft Spyware and run hijackthis once a week or so just to be sure. I've found hijackthis to be the most thourough scanner because it's actually my eyes going over the stuff not a piece of software.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware is the best in my opinion, its scanning and removing abilities are great, plus it offers live protection against spyware/scripts etc.
it blows adaware and those other freebies out of the water, but you do have to have a legit copy of windows to get through that genuine validation s*** on the microsoft download sites now. I do remember someone mentioning a crack for that though.. |

It's good but it can miss spyware that spybot S&D will pickup. If you download the installer file on a legit version of windows you can just copy it to the PC in question without the validation stuff. |

You can also get someone with a legit copy to validate theirs and then copy paste the link for the download to you. BUT THIS IS BAD!
