Is anyone else having any problems connecting?

Updated last night and it doesn't want to connect at all, says my proxys or firewall isn't set up correctly, but has been working fine with all previous versions of msn.

is your system upto date? running SP2? any 3rd party firewall aps running? done a virus scan? etc, etc, etc.

there was some kind of MSN virus running around awhile ago - it could just be a change to reflect that situation.

*shrug* and stuff...

running sp2, no 3rd party firewalls done virus scan.

I can't even connect to sites like messenger.msn.com or microsoft.com and the likes.

I am running sp2, I have a problem with msn 7.5. The only way i can navigate away from the main messenger window is if I click minimise or close. In other words clicking tabs on the bottom to go to another window (explorer for example) with messenger window open, does not work. It just will not go away. Anyone else had this problem?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and repairing etc. Nothing works.

German, if you can't connect to messenger.msn.com or microsoft.com then it sounds like your DNS is borked doode. Dunno if a virus/trojan/worm could do it but it's possible. Maybe stop and start your DNS client service and see if that helps?

I get a "the service is busy please retry" when we're capped but still running large downloads, as soon as the downloads are finished (or paused) it works fine. I just don't think they have a "freaking hell free up some damn bandwidth" alert msg.

You aren't running zone alarm are you ?

@Amaya - have you got some router/ics machine that'll support QoS ?

exemplar: Yes but we're torrent whores, so Azureus gets highest priority... mostly it's because when anyone goes to bed the torrents are all restarted and I tend to get home after people have gone to sleep and have to remote into our media machine to lower the bandwidth going to it.

not to sound like a complete asshat but why would you upgrade something to the latest version anyway if the previous version works? Things like MSN messenger I don't get why you'd update it unless msn actually tells you to or you won't be able to connect, if it ain't broke don't fix it. If they add extra features that you need desperately sure upgrade away but what the hell features could possibly be put into 7.5 that 7.0 hasn't got? I take OUT most of the msn crap.

As far as I know it does do this to an extent. I'm not sure about 7-7.5 but if you try to use messenger 5 or 6 it won't let you sign in unless you install the newer version.

My solution was to just use GAIM instead and be rid of all the useless bloatware for good.

yeah I know this but 7.5 hasn't bugged me to install it, I'm still using 7. Hence I'm not updating it until msn bitches at me, why would anyone else bother to update it?
