I mean, who plays Civ these days? It's for Civ 4 which is coming out. Pretty much old Civ but with decent multiplayer and updated gfx. It looks pretty damn cool. |

That ad was the first one I've ever clicked on here and that was before I saw this thread. It's a good banner with a good site and it's a lesson on how to make an ad that does not turn the potential customer away.
Having said that the banners in this thread are better! |

Bring on next week. Civilization 4 is going to be awesome.
Civ 3 wasn't so good, but 1 & 2 stole my life. From what i've been reading in reviews, it's going to be really good. |

Spose, if your civ sucked and you lagged behind the rest of the world :p Leonardos Workshop and Sun Tzu's Art of War FTW!
Not to mention many new advancements and a less linear research tree. Allowing for much greater verity between civs. Something I've wanted in my civ games for a long time. Also Religion has been added to the game, and affects the world in major ways, mostly through politics. First thing I'm going to do is start a war over religion and iron! Various bits'n'pieces have been improved such as better automation of units and cities. Corruption has been changed big time, which is good cause corruption was silly in the later games when you had size 20 cities on the otherside of the world to your capital with massive corruption rendering the city useless :( Also apparently the AI is more "realistic" in that each leader has distinct personalities and whatnot. I have enough faith in the game that I have pre-ord0rd it. Also the civanon advertising is genious! last edited by Tollaz0r! at 14:18:23 31/Oct/05 |

yeah i pre-ordered today as well. You get some civ4 "keyboard cover" (???) and a music CD.
the game rocks hard. Now i've paid for it i'm giving up the pretense of not having played it. Spent the entire weekend playing this game. time just disappeared so quickly. During the initial tutorial i was a bit concerned about graphics, but after that it all just felt natural. The religion aspect seems to play out well, if your state religion spreads to other civilizations you can then get their city info for free. I'm finding on the 2nd level that it's a bit too easy, sending my tanks in against archers, but this is going to be everything that Civ3 wasn't. being able to automate workers but have a choice of their type of automation is awesome. restricting non-ocean going boats to the coastline is a good move too, as well as the technology info clearly telling you what it obsoletes. very nice. Though i think it'll need a patch pretty quickly since a lot of the hyper links within the game which i think should go to the civilopedia don't work. Also there's some keys that don't do what you think they should in certain situations, so hopefully they fix that up. can't wait to jump in to some multiplayer once my legit copy arrives. |

yeah from what i am hearing on the SA forums people are for the most part calling this the best Civ so far with it incorporating a lot of the best features of Alpha Centurai.
i have been travelling the world for the last 10 or so months and am not ashamed to admit that i have been playing a f***load of Civ3 to kill time when i have been travelling alone or just simply bored s***less (trying going out in an unknown city in the middle of the week :S) looking forward to playing Civ4 when i come home though. |
