Google has confirmed that they are developing a free calssified ad service that will rival Ebay. This announcement comes several hours after Google "unintentionally provided a sneak peek at what appears to be a looming expansion into classified advertising".
Screen shots of the experimental service, dubbed "Google Base," appeared on several Web sites Tuesday shortly after the legions of people who dissect the online search engine leader's every move discovered a link to a page inviting people to list things like a used car for sale, a party planning service and current events. This is bad news for online auction site Ebay that charge a fee for advertising. Not only will this affect sales, Google has also announced that they are developing an online payment service, something like Paypal. Google confirmed the development of the service a few hours after taking down the link. This is good news as it seems many people hate Ebay and paypal. Full article can be found here. |

Saw this the other day as well. Would be interesting to see how eBay take this because eBay is one of Google Ad biggest buyers. If google pissed them off, there goes a big chunk of lewt, then again they might not care if people flocked thier service. This still hasn't been confirmed so I'll wait until google make the announcement.

eBay is one of Google Ad biggest buyers not true. most of the ebay ads you see on google are paid for by ebay affiliates looking to cash in via commisionjunction. |
