Well you would think after all my neck surgery and shoulder op that a guy would get a break for a while. Not me, I just spent three weeks in hospital with a very serious and I am told rare infection of the lung. Pseudomembranous invasive tracheobronchial aspergillosis, is the medical name but basically its a nasty fungal infection that grows in the lung. The thing that stumped the medicos is that I should never have got it, apparently its more associated with people who have had immuno suppressive drugs ect, chemo ect.or for some reason the immune system is at such a low level the bug gets a foothold in you and starts to grow.

The other big problem was that they didn't know what I had for about 7 days and were feeding me massive doses of steroids and other stuff that the infectous diseases guy informs me would have been like throwing petrol onto a fire!! Great. Once they had identified the thing they took me off all that and put me on a new drug called Voriconozole. They had three looks down my lungs and it looks like we are winning, the fungus is all but gone now, but I have to take this medication for another month and have several more Bronchescopy's in the interim.

I didnt realize how sick I was until the infectous diseases doc told me he'd only seen one other person with the condition and they were on life support. He said my general fitness had protected me to some extent (lucky I gave up the fags all those years ago) but he did say if I had not brought myself into the emergency ward on the night I did I could have croaked. scary stuff.

Anyway, the most frustrating thing is that for the last two weeks my new computer upgrade has been sitting in the shop at Surpass waiting for me and finally its coming home today. Here's what I am eagerly waiting to play with:-

AMD 4800+ 'Toledo core'
Asus A8N SLI Premium Motherboard
2 x XFX 7800 GTX video cards in SLI (factory OC ones at 490/1.3ghz)
2 gig of Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2PRO (2x XMS1GB)
Enermax 600w Noisetaker SLI certified PSU
22" Phillips 202P40 professional monitor
74G WD Raptor HDD
plus all my old stuff (sound card, DVD drives ect..)still in the box.

So what did I miss? Demos etc..new games released? while I was laid up? I really want to crank this baby up when I get her up and running.

No dragons in the story, but hospitals have got to offer laptops with net access to people who are bedridden that's for sure. I nearly went insane not being able to read the crap on here.

:P

You dont feel a thing, you are asleep when they do it to you.

Only problem I have now is that its very dibillitating infection, even though I only still have small quantities of it still in me it completely buggers you. Like I mean, you have a shower and you are knackered, you feel like you have just done a 10k run. Even typing makes you want to go sleep........zzzzzzzzzzzz

Good to see that you came out in one piece!

They released a second serious sam 2 demo which is pretty cool. Gaming wise I think we have Black & White 2 and F.E.A.R. which both seem pretty cool and would test your new shiny rig out.

Psycho needs two threads, one about his illness and another about missed games etc. You have an excuse to do multiple threads this time considering your circumstances :P

But ya try out F.E.A.R if you haven't already and pump those graphics right up until you get an eye infection.

Havent got my new stuff yet, get it all this arvo. I'm using my kids comp at the mo, but yes I am truly going to crank the box up when its all up and running, but don't mention the word 'infection' again ok?

FEAR is def on the list, plus I think I need a BF2 fix as well. Q4 will be scrutinised also.

Not that this effects you so much now that your an nVidia whore ;P
Apparently there are some new Cat drivers out as well which confused the crap outta me 5.1's

Kept thinking of the 5.9's an going wtf?? Only to realise that the 5.9's are actually 5.09

If you want some squad based casual fun, try "First To Fight". It's a prsent day Middle East flavour of Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30 style

Still no Vietcong 2
BF2 1.03 patch is good
DoD:S good fast fun
Call of Duty 2 is sposed to be out round Armistice Day (Nov 11 for you uneducated noobs)
Umm...
Winter Assault for the Dawn of War expansion, that is if your into RTS.

if time's an issue dude, ditch the Quake 4 in favour of a copy of F.E.A.R.

Q4 was a good play, but clearly a product for the 15-21yr old gamers :(
FEAR is an awesome out-of-box experience made to be played in the dark with the volume up loud :D

get better soon Psycho!

I never really miss people on here. It's only when they say "I'm back" that I realise they were gone.

In a surprise twist, I did think last week 'I wonder where that Psycho has gone?'

True story.

geez psycho, you don't do things by halves do ya? :P
Serious diseases and serious PC gear hehe.

Definitely give FEAR, Quake 4, and Serious Sam 2 a go, as they're all damn good.

So far I'm enjoying Q4 the most - it just looks and sounds fantastic, and the battles are so visceral - but don't choose anything less than hard or hardest difficulty, or it'll be way too easy.

PS. I bought an upgrade too, but was a little more, err, restrained heh :P

AMD Opteron 144 (stock 1.8GHz, oc'd to 2.8GHz - exactly the equal of an FX57 :D)
2 x 512MB BH5 goodness
Xpertvision 7800GT (stock 400/1000MHz, oc'd to 490/1180MHz)
DFI Ultra-D nforce 4 board

And boring stuff like PSU, HDD, etc.

Heh so can I =)

Dr Who and The Space Ark was the very first TV show I ever saw in Colour. The actual ep was the one that Tom Baker got gobbed on by the green slug and it was green coloured bubblewrap!

Mad props to the guys at Surpass for setting this baby up for me alas I am having to install my version of windows now, but they ran some 3dmark runs over night ect..and she gave some impressive results at stock.

3dmark '03 - 28619
3dmark '05 - 11254

yes I know 'ya dont play a benchmark' but the programs are good to actually ensure the SLI is working correctly. a lot sli people were copping single card results because they had screwed up their setups. Heres hoping I dont f*** anything with my fresh install...grrr waiting for SP2 to come down the pipe. :P

*oh and the Asus premium Mobo & and AMD cpu HS/fan setup is amazingly quite..much much more quiter than my P4 and the ol 6800 Ultra. very happy so far Jan!
