Does anyone know if I can stick a semperon in any old Socket A board or does it need to support semperons? It's seem Athlon XP's have all but disapeared and I could use one. A semperon would be more than enough but I don't know if it will work in an ASUS A7S33. I've tried google and ASUS but not had much luck.

I've tried google and ASUS but not had much luck. Probably because it's the A7S333 (not A7S33) and the processor is spelled Sempron (not Semperon). Go here: http://support.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx Seems like the sempron is not listed. That might not necessarily mean it won't work ... who knows. last edited by parabol at 16:20:22 21/Oct/05 |

I've heard from a few sources that most boards can support sempr0ns (kekeke) by default, and most of those that can't usually can do so after a bios update.

and most of those that can't usually can do so after a bios update. Well, after searching the Downloads section of the ASUS site for a BIOS Update ... the updates don't have a changelog (idiots!) and a couple of versions mention "Support new CPUs" and point to the cpusupport link from my post above, without giving any real info. Plus, to give you that cpusupport link .. it required overlaying part of the taiwan URL over the australian one to get it working. Idiots!! last edited by parabol at 18:04:31 21/Oct/05 |
