I keep getting random sms's from competitions and I don't know why.

I have no services through my supplier and I have never purchased anything for my phone off the web or those silly phone ring places.

The latest one is about a Plasma tv. Anyone else got it? It says I should be getting weekly horoscopes but I don't and they will charge me $2.50per min

"To cancel your entry sms ohs.only $2.5/m"

I tried to look at the details but I can't find a phone number and the number comes up as "Plasma"

I have replied and tried to send a stop msg and the ohs.only msg but it won't accept it :(

I got an sms about some crap once, I'm guessing they just get it from the phonebook or stuff.

I did they said "It isn't us" and that they couldn't do anything.

Are mobile phone numbers turning into emails? Where people can register your number to get spam stuff, against your authority?

It is no different to telemarketing to a landline. Are you so naive to think that large scale unsolicited marketing to mobiles was never going to happen ??

Companies have been data mining mobile numbers for years, and they will surely be trading such databases etc for marketing purposes.

If they are just spamming me at their cost then that is fine by me. But right now I have no idea :(

It is prolly a scam... they send you the SMS @ their expense, but you get charged @ premium rate when you reply to 'cancel' the service (that never existed in the first place).

Have you entered any competitions by sms'ing? If you read the fine print a lot of them say that by entering you agree to receive marketing messages.

^ Yeah, I've heard that pubs and stuff do it as well. Like if you sign up to be a member they can sell your mobile number to approved merchants (ie. whoever's running an ad campaign this month).

u can charge them with harassment (fark i hate them marketing phone calls ).
id be happay with a name and address so i can give them a fist full of plz explain.

The sms comes up as from "Plasma" as the name/number. When I get the details it says the time and date and the number as "Plasma" it wouldn't let me get a number from the name

can u get number off ya phone company?

Also if you've entered your mobile number into online forms like registering for anything with MSN, Birch Carrol and Coyle, etc etc.
