I just thought I would give anyone who is interested in The Mars Volta a heads up to their new "Live" Album that is being released on November 8th...

"Tuesday, November 8th, the mars volta will release scabdates.

scabdates will feature renditions of Volta tracks recorded live over the course of 2003-2005 touring in support of this year's Frances The Mute and 2003's De-Loused In The Comatorium, drawn out to their epic, endurance-defying lengths, making for a 74-minute sampling of the Mars Volta live experience, with packaging featuring the photography of longtime Volta collaborator Danielle Van Ark. Scabdates was assembled, produced and mixed by Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez. All music by Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez, all lyrics by Cedric Bixler Zavala, and performed by The Mars Volta. The track listing for scabdates is as follows:

1. abrasions mount the timpani
2. take the veil cerpin taxt
3. a) gust of mutts
4. b) and ghosted pouts
5. caviglia
6. concertina
7. haruspex
8. cicatriz
9. a) pt I
10. b) pt II
11. c) pt III
12. d) pt IV

Im assuming from listening to the samples on their website, that "Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt" is broken up into (what is listed above) as track 2,3, and 4. and Cicatriz as tracks 8,9,10,11, and 12. This leaves "Abrasions" "Caviglia" and "Haruspex" as possibaly new tracks.

you can find any other news as its released on their website

Or, on the biggest Mars Volta Discussion Board:
http://www.thecomatorium.com/board/

And can hear clips from the new "Scab Dates" album and read other misc. info on their MySpace:

thanks...

Yeah, i cant wait till BDO 06

The Mars Volta will be my main attraction, and im busting to see them live.

I also hear thorough the grape vine that Snoop D-O-double-G might be Iggy Pop's suprise guest artist :) that would be awesome as well...

Do you need an arts degree and/or john butler trio collection to be into this music?

Just curious ...

(Edit: never heard of them before)

hahaha... i was talking to my brother about them last night. He is an advanced Bass Player, and played piano for many years before switching to Bass, and I myself am finishing 1st year of a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium. We came up with the conclusion that you have to be a musician to appreciate them. Most of my friends dont "get" (appreciate) the complex rhythms, vocal work, and improvisional style. They relate their playing to an overdone "wall" of noise. pffft...

Awesome!

I bought their last album, which was the first one of theirs I've ever bought, after hearing 'the widow' on the J's. The whole album is totally different to what I'd normally listen to, and its frickin' awesome, scott.

Coincidently, just after I bought it I heard an interview from the Mars Volta lead guy talking about how he gave the album to one of his friends to listen to, and his friend kept skipping through the instrumental bits to get to the actual singing parts. He talked about how that's not how you're supposed to listen to it - you're supposed to just sit down somewhere when you have a spare hour or so, turn it on and listen to it from start to finish.

While its rare for me to have that sort of time, I've done it a couple of times and it is really a cool thing to do. It is a really interesting album; while I can easily see how some people would want to skip past some of the instrumental bits (I'll be honest, I've done it myself a few times), its still worth a go. The actual singing parts are absolutely awesome.

Does anyone know what language he's singing in ? I haven't been able to figure it out for sure, I have been working under the assumption that its spanish?

G'day Trog

Yeah, Cedric sings in Spanish on quite a few tracks, and i admit myself, with some songs, i had to break it down into parts before i would listen to the whole track, just becuase it was so unusual.

Also, "The Widow" owns :p

Fantastic band. :)

ps - the bass player Juan Alderete was the bass player from 'At The Drive In' & 'Racer X' (mad stuff especially if you like shred). He can really play...

Juan was not the bassist for drive-in, your correct about Racer X though. The bassist from At The Drive-In was Paul, who went to play lead guitar for sparta after the split of At The Drive-In, he is however now in Mars Volta, replacing Jeremy Ward as sound manipulator after Jeremy passed away of a drug overdose in late 2003.

Yes, Mars Volta are my favourite band, i'm rather obsessed. Feel free to ask any questions. Oh and if anyone hears early news as to whether they are playing side shows with the big day out tour please post straight away, as i will see them at gold coast big day out, and their Brisbane and Sydney side shows.
