G'day fella's. Been a long time, no see.

Just needed some advise - basically gf's computer is giving me the s***s (can hardly run a windows desktop scheme) - but all she needs it for is talking on msn and playing yahoo games :)Anyway - was thinking of giving her my CPU and mobo, g-card etc (1.4ghz) heh and some ram.

Now - if ive got my bro's spare computer with an asus a7v mobo, and g-card, i was thinking of just putting an AMD XP2600+ on it.

So i would have the CPU, Asus mobo, Asus Ti4200 and 512 SDRAM.

Basically what i really want to know is if that's good enough to basically play most games today or should i not even bother. Otherwise i guess i could buy a Duron or something instead and not bother trying to run something like the FEAR demo :P

Im really out of date with computers and gaming so any advise would be great.

my gf4ti4200 plays CS:source at an average of around 40fps. It gets up to 90, even 100 in some parts but mostly sticks around 30 in heavy fire. I'd say with that old video card you're going to want a kick ass CPU to play the latest games. That's even if they will run without their precious pixel shader 3 crap or whatever it is and DX9 hardware support.

btw my 4200 is overclocked to something like 280/550 and my cpu 2.4@2.7 gigihurtz

That card will play most games. It Wont play BF2. Not sure about the fear demo. But It plays UT2004 in high, Farcry in medium, HL2 in medium. BF in highest.

I could play all of them in those settings running an AMD 2000xp+. With 512 DDR 2700 ram. So you should have yourself an OK Computer.
