Topic: How to work our PC power requirements

I vaguely recall someone posting a while ago a breakdown of how much power various PC components pull, in an effort to help work out what PSU you'd need. I can't remember where it was posted or who it was that posted it, but I could really do with that info about now :)

I blew my 350 watt power supply a couple of nights ago and my brother just opened it up and said one of the transformers in it had burnt out. He thinks there could be a chance I was overloading the psu (it was 350 watt), and that got me curious about exactly how much power my PC would pull. I've got a 430 watt psu now, so either way that should be more than enough, but I was just curious.

I've got two hard drives, 2x80mm fans, 1x120mm fan, AGP 6600gt (which has its own molex connector, so I'd assume its drawing a decent amount), dvd drive, am64 cpu + fan, Audigy sound card, wireless network card, and then I guess whatever power the motherboard itself uses to do everything else. Anyone got any idea how much power all this stuff would pull? Would it be enough to fry a 350 watt psu?

Ah cool, didn't even know stuff like that existed.

According to those my PC would be pulling about 340 watts, so yeah, would have been getting close with a 350 watt supply I guess.

hmm you might want to get a 400/450W just in case 6600's pull a bit of juice underload. :)

Yeah, I've got a Thermaltake 430 watt now, so should be all sweet.
