Hey Guys,

I work at Maunsell | AECOM, in the Brisbane office. It is a engineering consultancy (we pretend to do lots of work).

Anyway, our Mechanical and Eletrical departments are looking for Cadet Drafters (ala apprentice drafters).

I am currently the Structural Drafter (yay!), and they want one for each department (never had an elec one and the mech guy left recently).

You have to do the work + tafe thingy, they give you 1 half day off a week for a class. The course you study is the Advanced Diploma of "Your Area here". Mine is Advanced Diploma of Civil Engineering, I believe the Mech uses the same one but majors in Mech (mines Structural). Course takes 4 years part time, while working.

Work is just drafting and various other duties that get tagged on. Pay isn't the best at first, but good for a apprenticeship type deal. (You can get all the money back for tafe courses after passing, which you also can claim against tax).

Seems the best way to go when you finish is contracting (with course complete and your 4 years exp. you're looking at min 45k per year).

Anyway, if you're seriously interested. E-mail me @ lightassassin@hotmail.com make the subject "Maunsell Cadet Drafty". They haven't offically put anything up, but they do try and find people without having to go all offical about it (paper ads, waste money etc...).

If you have any questions, just feel free to post here also. I'll keep my eye on it.

Laterz
Ben (LightAssassin, yes me, the sexy one.)

[Edit] I can't spell the without a g.

Just looking for a little more info ...
Would this be a junior position only?
And would any kind of previous experience be needed for the position or is it from the ground up sort of thing?
Full time position with part time course or part time position?

You don't have to be a junior (I started at 18, the mech guy who left was in his early 20's and had only started 3 months before me).

You pay for the tafe subjects upfront, but the company pays you back if you pass the subject (so you don't really pay, but get the advantage of a tax break).

Full time position, part time study (you choose how many subjects etc...).

Previous Exp. Personally I have year 12 with Maths A and English... I didn't have graphics or maths b or physics (which help greatly). But they aren't required (you learn it all at tafe). All you need I guess is Maths A and English year 12 level to get into the course required for the job.

Kat what do you mean pay Maunsell's bills? you work for a client of ours?

Hello I have no interest in what was offered by the OP but I am stopping by to say hello. Hello. Hey LA I think I have heard of you before? Have you heard of me? I'm great. Sometimes you guys do work for us isn't that cool? I think so. I like long walks along the beach and sipping martini's. I will keep talking about my self, no need to ask.
