Awesome book 9! One day I think RJ is going to wake up and be.. "f***! I mean... f***! Seriously.. no come on seriously.. what WAS I ON?!?! I'm going to have to sit down and rewrite the whole thing as a trilogy."

Yeh, I saw it in the shops on Saturday. I was going to buy it, but I bought donuts instead, and I know - for a fact - that they were better value.

I think were getting better and better until about book 7. Book 8 wasnt so great (compared to the others) but I still love the series. Some of you will probably be annoyed to kow that RJ says he will write 'however many (books) it takes' to complete the series, but is expecting a whopping 13!
I dont see how he can keep the storyline going that long, but dammit, ill keep reading. What shop did you see it in Trog? I looked in all the bookshops in the city, but they all said what the internet sites say: it will be out in the shops on Friday.

So there I was: watching an old taped episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion when I heard a *clunk* from outside. With their customary care and effeciency, Australia Post had simply chucked the package containing the book onto my porch. Luckily QBD packaged it properly so I wasnt damaged. Cant tell what the book is like yet, but at least it isnt the size of a Mr. Men book like the last one. Anyway, gotta go read.

WTF is with all the cynicism about RJ books on this goddamned forum. Jesus, you havent even read the book and already you are trashing it.
I just love the depth and characters in the series. Prolly why I like Star Trek so much too. Sad? Maybe. But I personally dont care what others think of things I enjoy. So there.

Last one was about 570. This one is about 680. Not that much longer (certainly not as long as the 4th and 6th books) but getting better. Took him so long to write, should be longer than this.

Everyone is trashing it because it is s***.

I read books 1-7 one after the other and they just got worse and worse.

His writing is ok but too flowery most of the time, his characters stagnate, his story goes nowhere, his ideas are the same old ideas every other fantasy writer uses.

Should I go on?

Oh well

Wow, its like, you've read all his books.. oh, you have. I agree, you've obviously got good taste in books. Get over Jordan already, 129319838 pages later and people are still eating it up?

He has a point there Trog. I think ill stop this argument now though. Its probably not a good idea to annoy the admins two days before the finals. :)

stfuih8u trog. heh

I got my copy last Friday from QBD out at Garden City.

It's better than Book 8 that's for sure.

Generally I agree that the books have been getting slightly worse, though some real good scenes are in the later books...

I could give out a heap of spoilers but most of you wouldn't know what I was talking about, and thus probably not care, and those that do know would hate me....hmm...that's not so bad I guess...:)

Now just have to wait 2 more years till Book 10 comes out....

I had a 36 hour train ride from Brisbane to Cairns and back again. I thought it would be a good way to kill time.

How wrong I was.

True, true.

By the way, I read 'Snow Crash' after hearing you talk about it and reading that article.

Still pretty undecided on it, even though it was months ago. Some cool ideas but it was a bit too 'erratic'. I mean, it just didn't seem to stick to anything - or flow real well.

Does he have any other books you think are better?

you didn't like snowcrash? therefore, you are crazy. Try Cryptonomicon by the same author - awesome. Different, still sorta "erratic" I guess the way you define it, but that's his style.

I have always meant to read snow crash. I personally like Michael Crichton's various books as well, especially Jurassic Park (far and away better than that sorry excuse for a movie) and Airframe. But why are the movie versions so unbelevably s***? I saw The Lost World for the first time when it was on TV a couple of weeks ago. What a joke! The last 30mins is completely made up, and the rest of that tosh has little to no bearing on the events of the book.
An example from Jurassic Park:
Book: Movie:
Lawyer character is a large, Lawyer is a thin white
muscled black man who survives man who dies. WTF?
The movie/s were riddled with inconsistencies and made up garbage. I especially disliked the cliched pop science rubbish spouted by the main characters every 5 minutes.
Hint: When converting a book to a movie, dont 'kidify' it just because it has dinosaurs in it. Rant over.

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan
a series of rather long, slow, poorly focused books that some might call an "epic saga" (quite a strech if you ask me)

just for interest here's a brief summary of WoT women
(only read up to book 7 so may have missed some)

Egwene: bitch
Elayne: stuck up bitch
Nynave: sexually frustrated super bitch
Morgase: queen bitch
Avienda: dominatrix bitch
Faile: dominatrix/S&M bitch
Elida: Ultra-mega-super-man-hating bitch
Moiraine: ice bitch
Siuan: power bitch

Aes Sedai: city bitches
Wise Ones: desert bitches

and thats just to name a few

Cant argue with that Drail. Anyone interested in the games should read Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy. Brilliant book.
